P18's on a seth?

what do you think, p18's on a pair of seth's, or an axial 140?

with the p18's i'd have to bend the brakes a shit load, and i don't even know how well they'd work afterwards. any feedback?

It depends. Do you really weigh 300 lbs, have a boot sole length of 360, and need an 18 din setting?

I have Axial 140s.. I weigh 150 and I'm 6 foot even. my din setting is at 6.5

They get the task done no problem... In fact, they are probably too much.. I could be just as fine on axial 110s..

Hell ya race stock bindings. Im 5'9" 160lbs, and i have salomon 916s, and they are hands down the best bindings Ive had on a pair of skis. Ive always had binding trouble and i really do feel alot better that im not gonna randomly hit the eject button and fly into the roof. god knows what can happen... (god bless goose)

yeah.. I can see why having a 16 or 18 din setting might be better for racing, but that just seems unnessesary to me for freeride, especially if you have a din setting of 6 or 7, like most people do.

you can STEP OUT? like.. your skis just fall out of them at 6.5? those bindings are either fucked hardcore, or you are a freaking fatso with HUUUGE boots. (no offense of course)

I have never ever pre-released in my life.. so yeah... iono.

How are your dins that low? I'm the same height and weight as you and I ride my bindings at 10 and they release super easy.

depends on the binding. shitty ones you can max out at 10 or 11 and pre-release like none other, then ride a 7 or 8 on looks

just make sure ur din is somewhere up to atleast 12ish cause you dont want to run ur bidnings on the lower end of the spectrum. You want to always keep ur din in the middle range of the din which is what the bindings are built for. Personally I ride Look TT9's with 15dins and i think thats the perfect range. I keep my din at 9 or 10 and I've never had any problems.

I'm 6'3", 160lbs and I ride Axial 140's at a 9 DIN, and I've tumbled end over end after bad switch pow landings and have never lost a ski. So it depends on how much retention you need to hold you in, the P18 is going to be more solid and last longer most likely, but if you don't destroy bindings alot you won't need anything over the 140.

This site just has a bunch pussies when it comes to bindings. I rarely hate on this site (other than Level 1) but seriously, 6.5 din? some people on here weigh like 160 lbs, 6'3" and rock a 6.5 din, and NEVER pre-release?? I just find that unbelievable. I weigh 145lbs. and am 5'8" and I have my din at 13 (FKS 155), and I only release when I fall on something decently sized. Countless people have told me that Im going to "break my leg" or something and say I should have a p12 binding, or a p14 binding at most. Right now my park skis are on 14 DIN bindings. I have those cranked down on 11 and I still pre-release all the time. I was going to put them at 12 or 13 this weekend.

Quit hating on FKS bindings.


oh and you should have no trouble getting the brakes around a Seth. I just told my shop guy to bend the brake flat, then bend an entirely new angle farther down the brake. I have them mounted on JP/Juls and the brakes work just fine.

You know, a lot of it has to do with boot size too... I mean, if you rock size 14 feet and need a boot sole length of like 360, the din goes up.. like, waaay up..

I have a 305 sole length, rossi axium 140's, weigh 145-150, and I am 6 feet tall...

Therefore, I have a 6.5 din setting, and thats what the ROSSIGNOL BINDING ISC CHART SAYS IT SHOULD BE.

I am a Vermont Ski Assiciation trained Ski and Snowboard technician... I work at a ski shop and reset bindings every day I work.

All I can say is, if you set your din higher, you should definitely check with the local ski shop guys first (assuming they know what the fuck they are doing) about it, so you dont rip out an ACL or something...

yeah but according to the rossi chart, I should have my din at like 5. I double ejected whenever I landed switch on a 2 feet drop when my din was on 11 (p12s).

maybe your bindings are just not set right... if they are set right for your boots, that should never EVER happen...

you might want to take it to a local ski shop and have them look at them. If they find nothing wrong, I will be surprised...

yea that should honestly not happen if it is set up correctly.

I'm bigger than you, and I was on p10s for a while, at like din 8. I've landed switch on large tables (45+ feet) sketchily, and never pre-released.

Dude your like a kid who walks into a movie half way through, your out of your element.

When it comes down to it, good skiers need higher dins than the chart says. They put more pressure on their skis than "type three skiers" because they go faster, jump higher etc.

The DIN chart may work for you but thats probably you don't charge as hard as some.

you only move it up 3 settings.. if you are a type 3 skier, move it up 3 settings.. there are no type 4 or type 5 skiers for a reason dude...

Sure, some racers might take it up another notch or something, but hell.. even Darren Rahlves only had a fucking din setting of 9... which is only 1 notch up from where he shoulda been at 8... (they talked about it during the last olympics when they were comparing his size to that of the Austrains, who had din settings of 12 and 13, thats the only reason I know that)

I dont know man, but if you want to really fuck up your knees, feel free to tighten those fuckers up to the highest setting and hope you dont fall too hard... because believe me If YOU were charging hard enough and FUCKED UP with your settings too high, you would be very sorry you didnt listen.

I'm not critisizing you, I'm just making my point to others who might read this and realize they dont want to miss a whole season by needing Orthoscopic and 6 weeks physical therepy... and therefore maybe never skiing right again due to the fucking PLATES and SCREWS they need to hold their motherfucking knee together...

they must not be set up right. im 5'11" 175 and i have p12 jibs set at 9. i was doing big 180s and 360s of 10-15 drops into crud/pow and i never popped out once.

part of the reason may be that you are never supposed to ride within 2 settings of the upper limit of your binding. this is because it puts too much tension on the spring and causes pre-releases

ACtually I had a certified shop guy set them up right and everything. He has like 20 years of experiance or some shit. He set them at 7 and he told me to crank them up like 4 notches because he knows me well.

Ummm, when you are going big, it is a lot more dangerous to have your skis possibly pre-release when you land than not release if you fall. First of all if your going fast they will still come out if you crash hard enough but its even worse if they cause a big fall for no reason. I've heard guys like Jon Olsson crank their bindings up to like 19 because they just dont want to risk a pre-release thats to dangerous and will get make you need "fucking PLATES and SCREWS they need to hold their motherfucking knee together...".

i would do it p18's are strong bindings that will last forever, they're heavy but they're incredibly strong. If i could mount all my skis i would put race stock on them. Theres nothing wrong with going with the extra strength/added durability of race stock

Lol. Well.. heres the thing guys, you are talking to a guy who happens to HAVE plates and screws in his right knee because he cranked his bindings 2 settings too tight and blew it.

I dont know, you guys do what you do, I'm just giving my advice based on what I've been through.. and what maaany others have been through... So just because you've "heard guys like Jon Olsson crank their bindings to (a near impossible)like 19, doesnt mean that actually happens.

You go tell get Jon and ask him to show you his binding's setting... I doubt they are at a "19" like you said.

The top skiers don't use p18s so that they can put them on 12. I wouldnt be suprised if Jon uses a 19 din settings. My bro rides his din on 15 and he still ejects all the time, and he weighs just as much if not less than I do.

the bigger the boot the lower the din, and yes weight does play a role, but when you are pushing your skiing hard especially in park and big mt you really want to keep your skis on im 5 11 180 and have my din at 9 in front 11 in the heelp for park then 10 in the toe and 12 in the heel for big mt. im all for race stocks, such bomber construction, this year is the first year i really understand how attnoying it is to have a binding just explode when you land

I skiied on a friend's skis that had p12s. Her DIN was on 6 and I could pop out when I just lifted my leg and twisted my foot really quickly. We have the exact same boot size too, and the foward lean was pretty tight.

shit. tried this, and when i went to bend the second right angle, one of the brakes snapped off. fuck. i guess i'll be rocking them without a brake on one side.

im 125, 5' 5" and my boots are 26.if i dont have my DIN at least 9 then come out whenever i land switch outta a 5 or 9
when i tryed out my friends skis whose binings are at like 6.5 i would come off when i landed switch off like 2 foot ledges

actually the larger the boot the lower the din is set at. some one with a size 360 and 300 pounds type 3+ skier would be like 10.5 or 11. 18 on that size boot and they would not release at all.
