Ya well there was only one thread that popped up and it was like 2 years old...lots of new people have come out since then so I thought I would start up another little opinion thread. Chill man.
Anyway for me I gotta say it would be Dre and Nas, also really like CunninLynguists, AZ, Z-Ro and a few others.
Talib Kweli is the perfection of rap, in my opinion. I Try makes me cream every time.
The Roots are fucking amazing, listen to their live version of Adrenaline if you don't believe me.
Immortal Technique isn't one of my favorites, but I respect the hell outta them... they're good, just the lyrics are too raw... Dance with the Devil is haggard. Point of No Return and Industrial Revolution are pimp, though.
Then of course your standards like 2Pac, Biggie, and Nas.
BIG L best lyricist/crazy freestyles
B.I.G best stories in songs
kweli most socially concious
papoose the hot new shit
JayZ reasonable doubt...enough said
Nas classic
Hi-Tek New and neat
and just cause im from toronto BLACKJAYS!!!
I say Kweli is better than just for being socially conscious... in my opinion he is he perfection of rap. Sticks to the beat so well, amazing voice, such good rhythms.. can't get enough of his shit.
Immortal Technique isn't one of my favorites, but I respect the hell outta them... they're good
Immortal Technique is one guy,not a group. I know what you mean though, he is pretty raw at times but listen to Leaving the Past and your opinion will change
i gotta go with:
cunninlynguists
Slug(atmosphere)
Souls of mischief/hieroglyphics
jaylib
therapy(found out about him from the indiefeed podcast and hes amazing)
and because im from denver-D.O
jay-z by no means sucks...just because he went mainstream and made mad bank doesn't mean hes a bad rapper. Just listen to reasonable doubt, shit is up there as a classic.
living legends (murs, grouch, asop, bicasso, sun spot jonez, eligh, luckyiam.psc, all have sick solo stuff)
the a-team
aesop rock
binary star
e&a
buck 65
wu tang (36 chambers is without a doubt one of the best hip hop albums ever)
digable planets
talib
mos def
tribe called quest
and so many more.. just happened to be some of the things i've been listening to lately.
i get to photograph hip hop shows when i'm back home, it's a pretty sick gig.
Jedi Mind, Jaylib, basically all Battle Axe, Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Snoop, The Game, Zion-I, Lil Jon... some of my top dogs, i dont have time to list all the shit i like.
