Hahah... so true
anyways buddy, I think that you tore something... MCL, ACL, something. You probably partially tore it, then when it gave out was when it went all the way. You should get that shit looked at quick

My moms the same way dude, I know that fear all too well.
Is it swollen? Did you hear any kind of pop? Does it just give way sometimes? It could be that you tore your MCL or ACL. Hope for the MCL man.

ok, i guess ill step in and be a professional here.
Hi, im a physical therapist. If you injured our knee in such a way that it gave out on you and has now swollen, then yes you need to have this looked at.
Xrays are no use for soft tissue injuries, they ill not expose any ligamentus, meniscal or cartilage damage. I would recomend you either see a sports physical therapist or better still a sports medicine doctor. Most GPs will just give you anti-inflamatories and tell you to rest, which is useless.
if who ever you see believes you have more than basic ligamentous damage (a grade 1 or 2 mcl or lcl injury), they may recomend you go and have an MRI to determine how much damage you have done.
That said, if you have done some serious cruciate anterior or posterior ligament damage, they may be able to tell with basic ligamentous stress tests.
Best case scenario, youve done some medial or lateral ligamentous damage and probably some meniscal damage.
But i cant diagnose that shit from here, so go get it checked out.
pm me or repost if you need any more help bro.

Athletic trainer here.
with a backwards twisting fall which it sounds like. yes the mcl and clc are possible culprits. but do not forget about our friend the acl.
as stated in the above post definately go to a sports med doctor. or if you are in a state which allows it straight to a PT. ^^^ he would know more about their capabilites then i would in ordering MRI's. but i would strongly you suggest you get one.
just out of curiosity, what movement of the knee joint hurt?

If you tore your ACL for example, it doesn't matter, you'll need surgery and will be out for months.
If you tore you MCL it does matter, cuz it needs to be immobilized ASAP and the swelling needs to be stopped. The longer you wait with seeing the doctor, the longer the healing will take. Completely torn MCL takes 6 weeks if you are lucky.
Partially torn MCL can heal as quick as in 2 weeks but in that case you're knee wouldn't give out on you. Everytime your knee gives out on you, you do more damage. The faster you know what's up, the sooner you can get proper treatment and will be back on your skis.
The worst thing that can happen right now is you having a torn MCL, which isnt too bad, but not going to the doctor, and wrecking your knee sometime next week destroying your ACL and your meniscus, taking you out almost a year.
Knees are too important in skiing. When you hurt it, put ice on it, immobilize it, and go straight to the doctor/hospital.

If he did something to his MCL, it would be giving him a lot of pain - doesn't sound like it's hurting him that bad. ACL has no nerves, so the pain is often not very bad with that tear. No huge hurry to go to the doctor, but don't ski, or do anything that will make it collapse again, since that can cause meniscus damage and such. You need to go to an orthopaedic surgeon, if it's ACL, you'll need srugery.

1. You can tear your acl and not even know it. Most isolated ACL tears have little pain/minor swelling. Especially if the victim has a high pain tolerance.
2. MANY people never get their ACL fixed, you can function just fine without one. Maybe not as a high end athlete, but you can walk around just fine.

Usually the 'pop' is a classic sign of a ligament tear-I would go to an orthopedist if I were you, get an MRI and get that checked out. In the meantime-don't ski on it, ice it and if you have one maybe wear a brace or something like that to stabilize that knee.

Alright today i went to see my trainer in school. She wobbled my knee n leg around n tried finding out wat was wrong due to the swelling she could not tell what it was and told me to wait untill monday and just ice and rest my knee. To let everyone know today i walked around school without crutches and i wore a brace. Any tips will be helpful thanks for all the tips.

I hate to be alarmist or whatever, but if your knee is still swollen up to the point that movement is restricted or your therapist or whatever cant do movement tests because of swelling than there is definitely something wrong....most likely a torn ACL. Don't be a fool and get that checked out (probably MRI) as soon as the swelling goes down. You should probably use the crutches as much as you can tolerate, don't try to walk on it.
Good Luck
