Whats everybody's thoughts on Salomon bindings? I think their the best but someone begged to differ yesterday.

I'm too big for them and can snap them in two like balsa wood.

If you're small they're excellent.

look/rossi has better retention but the salomon's are really light, so it's a compromise.

if you get the higher end models, anywhere from 914 and on then theyre are fine. Anything less and you get the Salomon surprise

then why do a lot of the pros use them???

as long as you get the high-end bindings, their alright. if you just buy the cheap plastic ones, they'll break for sure...the ti's are where its at.

The pros use the 916, which is a different world from their normal stuff.

The ti bindings have the same amount of plastic in them, but some of the interior metal is titanum instead of steel. The only thing saved is weight.

I have blown out of my FIS 914s a couple of times when I shouldn't have. I still  prefer the Scratch 140s from two years ago (turntable heel), which I have on my park and urban skis.

I would maybe consider riding 916's, but everything else they make is junk (in my experience).  Get the 912's if you love prereleasing and adjusting your wingpieces every other run.

i had problems with my S912s for a year, then i snapped the titanium plate. shitty binding, great warranty.

I'm reasonably sized, ski aggresively, and I love Salomon bindings. But the Sollys on my park and powder skis are five years old and DIN 14. Cranked to 11 or 12, they're perfect.

Still, with a few exceptions, I've always kinda had the impression that there isn't a lot of difference between bindings.

i know exactly what that feels like, and i cant complain about my bindings but the brakes are bent to shit and sometimes they start dragging in the snow so i haveta like force them back into place, i think mine got bent from sending my ski flying into a rail once....

Salomons have cool pivot on the front, but ive seen some warranty omes that broke clean off. Kinda plasticy and weak, id say if your planning on jibbing hardcore go with some px12's

solly's work for me but my bro who is bigger than me like 160 broke his easily after hitting a rail with them. Look's are nice, but i still prefer the 912's.

no longer a problem with the "z" series, so light and the wing peice problem is fixed, i have had no problems with them. i would personally never ski looks cause they weigh a fuckin ton, salos are so light.

exactly.  i skied mine for about 16 days with no problems, then they just started coming loose from normal usage.  nor after like every 3 or 4 days of riding i have to take them to the shop and have them tighten them.  i really hate them.  also my brakes  break constantly, at least one time per ski day.  im a huge dude, i weigh 222 so maybe i should have gotten something else

madsteezin is a salomon dealers dream.


the bindings have some advantages like being light. but i have seen and heard of many of the toepieces shattering. and yes i do ride the 912 TI so i know why they suck compared to look and rossi bindings. I rode 3 days and the wings were really loose and i can't get them tight again.

i put about 75 days of hard skiing on a pair of salomon bindings (on solomon screams) last season. never once had a ski pop off, never had any mechanical malfunction. they seemed pretty bomber. just recently got some brand new solomon bindings (dont know the model or whatever) for a pair of 4frnt msps, and so far i definately cant complain. havent used many other bindings so dont have much to compare to, but solomon bindings have worked for me.

too much plastic, I keep snaping the plate under the bindings.

the brakes suck. I go through a set of brakes every week. its getting expensive and annoying.

also, they are too far off the ski, they all feel like they have lifters.

Umm, there are a lot of statements in this thread that make no sense. Salomon makes some of the most dependable solid bindings and has been for years. Look/Rossi are good bindings, but especially for burly metal bindings, there is no other option than Salomon. Even the older bindings like the 900 and 997 were and still are some of the most bomber bindings made.

quite simply, if your buying salomons get the 914, or the 916 like i have. completely different binding construction then the 912 pieces of shit

I've have a few pairs of 914s and one pair of rossi 140s and they're pretty much the same shit performance wise. Broke both types' brakes landing switch, the wing adjustments have come loose occassionally and both have come off when i could have lived with them staying on. I think the lower din rossi/looks are probabably more durable, but if your buying the higher end models you'd probably have a hard time differentiating between the two, besides weight. This is kinda like the ford vs. chevy truck arguement. People who have ford say it's the only way to go and vice versa. Now that the new looks don't have a pivot heal, i'd go with soloman unless it they wear some fks. High end bindings pay off in the long run, they just last longer. So whatever you do, buy some good ones and if you don't want the din high, set them low.

i have seen a lot of z12s break this year, they are garbage, but the 14 is ok, but i think its best to go with rossi/look, best bindings out there

best freeride bindings I've ever had...then again I almost broke the tyrolias every time I tried landing switch last year so this is a definite improvement.
