Traveling with skis

I've gotta fly with ski equipment, and I've never done it before. I'm going to carry on my boots, cause I hear thats the intelligent thing to do, and it is. Now I just need to do skis. What do people do for this? What kinds of bags do you use and what would provide maximum protection for two pairs of skis?

i put mine in a ski bag and put my ski jacket and ski pants in there wrapped around my skis, my bag is slightly padded too, and take a backpack as a carry on and clip your helmet onto it

ski bag for the skis, rollie kinda are the best, then pack all the clothes you can around your skis, so you can protect your gear, plus half your clothes will fit in your ski bag so it means you can take a smaller bag instead of a big duffle, or if your like me you can get all of your clothes iinto your ski bag...

ski bag + most airports have like a plastic wrap thingy made for skis so the bag doesnt get too abused

Rollers, necessary or no? What kind of bag has the most padding, I dont have a ton to pack around them.

use the fragile cargo option. It costs more cash but its well worth it.

i have two seperate thule hard cases, one single and one double ski case. those are the safest bet.

I take everything I need for a day of skiing (except skis) in my boot bag...boots, helmet, pants, jacket, long underwhere, gloves, fleece, goggles, and socks. That way if the airline delays your bags, all you gotta do is demo skis and you are good to go. This happened to me before going to Vail. Just keep your receipt from the demo and they will reimburse you for it.

you guys must have forgotten how much of a beating skis get one jumps, falling, rails, retards in the lift lines. they wont break.

when i fly with my skis, i just wrap 2 towels around each and stuff some clothes in tehre. never will i put my jacket or pants, edges might cut them...

with race stock bingings, well only the turntable heels, i.e. FKS and P18s, i have seen the arms of the heel piece get bent, probably from baggage handlers throwing the bags all over, but i always wrap my jacket and pants around my heel piece, probably doesnt do much but it makes me less stressed bout traveling

yo take ur skis and get them into a ski bag, if its not padded, use your ski jacket, pants, socks, whatever loose clothing you got, and that will work wonders, it just might be a little heavy when your done packing it

yeah, i do admit all i wrap are the bindings, i have p12 jibs, wrap them with towels.

Get a Dakine Single or Double Ski Bag. Depending on which one you get, some have pretty steezy pocket thingers so you can fit your boots, helmet, skis, basically all your ski stuff in the bag. The roller ones are the best.

Cover your skis with a thin blanket or something. Tape also works. Covering your skis with clothing may result in your skis slightly damaging your clothes.

go to your ski shop they will have a bunch for cheap...you would end up spending more on here after shipping than you would by just driving to the store, make sure you get a bag long enough for your skis too

i just traveled out west for the first time a few weeks ago with my skis and i got this sweet k2 bag for maddd cheap that fits my skis perfect... then i just shoved all my ski stuff around my skis so they were tight snug and padded... carried my boots and helmet on... skis arrived in perfect condition and everything was good
