I'm calling out all the euro kids on this one. I was wondering if anybody knows which resorts have a decent amount of snow (let's face it, nowhere is super good this year). Ideally the resorts would be close to a decent city to hit up some urban. Thank.
norway or sweden got the best snow in europe at the moment. dont know about the urban however as i ski france. france is predicted snow this week tho so ill be skiin a little place called sainte fois which is sick for bc-no park tho and thts got bourg st maurice about 10 mins by car which could be good for urban provided the temp starts droppin and the place starts snowin.
1) the guy asked where the snow is...
La Plagne: 75 cm
Les 2 Alpes: 15 cm
...
while some of the scandinavian resorts have 3 meter, and resorts like Chamonix, Zermatt, Saas-Fee, Dachstein have 250 cms.
2) they are not the best, at all, for parks just check www.snow-parks.com, for pow you're a retard if you claim those 2 are the best.
to give a more detailed answer to the question, I've been riding Laax most of the time the last few weeks. It's got a decent amount of snow if you compare to most other places, everything is covered at least, but the freeriding is shit. However it's one of the only placecs in the alps right now with a sick superpipe and a sick park setup. You can check out the parks in Laax at http://www.laax.com/snowpark/start.html For urbans Chur and Zürich are nearby but all the snow has melted in the city already, might be some new snow coming next week.
word ^^
I was in Zermatt last week, there's a lack of snow but it was still ok compared to the South of France. It's snowing right now, this week end will be epic in the north of the alps.
Yeah, Norway and Sweden have the best snow at the moment (most of them have 1m+ all over). Everywhere is predicted snow this week (6 inches in the UK - doubt that much will fall though).
Get your facts right before you start bashing. Check www.skiinfo.fr or www.2alpes.com to see that 2 Alpes has 15 cm at the base. I don't freaking care if there's a dusting on the glacier, when you ski, you ski all over the mountain, and 15 cm is retarded compared to places higher up North.
And you're probably 14 and don't know any better, but stop being a zealot for the 2-3 places you've been, and realize there's more than what's whithin 1 hr reach from where you live. Why are they the best? Because you happen to ski there? Try skiing in Switzerland/Austria for once and realize there's more to skiing than massive tourist factories and French "je-ne-sais-quoi" park shaping.
Why do you think Absinthe and Poor Boyz were shooting in Arlberg and Vorarlberg all season and not in "the best" La Plagne? Why do you think both the Burton European Open and the Orage Freeski Open are in Laax and not Les 2 Alpes? Think about it. And if you're gonna promote France, at least promote the good part, département 74 with the most snow (La Clusaz, Chamonix) the best parks (Avoriaz) and the best style (Mégève, Evian).
austria is shit for snow. i specially ordered rossi scratch wrs bc's last october because im living here for the year now ive had 4 days of skiing. its depressing
its been shiting it down in the UK even london has got snow. the whole counrty is covered and its getting worse.im hoping the cities get a good dump, its gona be urban till the friday then up to the moutains for the weekend.
or might u should get ur facts..switzerland is absolutely terrible at the moment.Plus he wasnt that bad with promoting les deux alpes its a pretty sick resort my dear!!
i can only talk for the eastern part of switzerland, and the best place atm is splügen or san bernardino.. i even had some powderday there..
st. moritz isnt that good right now, but the park at corviglia is still fine with some nice booters and rails
laax isnt too bad either, but not the flims-side... dont go to resorts like lenzerheide atm, cause in february, there are way to many people on the slopes and it dont even has a park..
if you want snowheights from switzerland, go and check http://www.slf.ch/avalanche/hstopo-dec.html. its the avalangereportsite for our little country.
hope this helps, but its still a bad winter so far :(
cheers
Well tomorrow im of to la clusaz, france (location of Candide invatational) and unlike most of france its being dumped on all week and has had 30cm since yesterday, so mabey the alps will get better later on in th seasons...
