Just had a chat with my Dad, hes an oldschool ski bum...or atleast he was...anyways, apparently back in his days at whistler (mid to late 60's), you could do an entire weekend in for $20. $7 for lift ticket, $0.25 for beers and the rest on food. $20 cant even get 1/3 of a lift ticket these days. He was speaking of skiing pow all day on the main runs and never having to worry about it running out for the next day, and when it finally did, they would just boot pack it up a ridge off the old t-bars and into the bowls...damn sounds like a good time to be in whistler...how times have changed...

I'm gonna apply my econ to this...the CPI in 1965 was 80.5, it is now 130. So the lift ticket should cost 11.3 dollars by today's prices...
Well that's not realistic, but they did increase the prices pretty dramatically. Must have been sweet to be a skibum back then

nevermind, CPI back then was 20.0 so the lift tickets should cost 45.5 bucks in today's dollars. Considering the improvements and such the mountain made, it really isn't that much cheaper.

I was watching family ski video's from the early 90's.. it was quite funny to see the bottom of jersey cream without a corral or any sort of gate lineup system, glacier creek is non-existent, and there are hardly any people on the hill to be seen. There was footage of the fam outside the rendezvous in full late 80s gaper gear, and the Saudan Coulouir race going on in the background. Free powerbars anyone? I found all my seasons passes from '91 onwards, where my photo is just glued on, or lamenated on.

screw 100 level econ. $20 for a weekend sounds much better than the CPI says it should.

If we're to believe some of the old guys I work with, who've been skiing/living Whistler for a damn long time, there was a time when they had to put up "no reefer smoking" signs in the "basement" of the roundhouse, because parents started getting concerned that their kids were getting high, secondhand.
