Ingrown toenails suck balls

yeah i had one and got it removed today, 4 shots of novacaine (sp?) later and now i have half a toenail and cant ski for a few days,

I'm pretty sure my tonail was getting ingrown. It really hurt and then some brown juice squirted out. I did some surgery with nail clippers and its getting better.

Happens to me so much, I always get these big ass balls of puss which I squeeze and push all the infectious crap out then you soak your feet in some hot water with all sorts of salts and things, then I put some polysporin on a bandaid and it does the trick

yea man its such a bitch. i made thread a while ago with some gross photo evidence. I've given up on the docs for now, i just go in with the nail clipper and tweezer and go at it. i try to bend the end of the nail up and out of the skin and cut it if possible. it sucks

try this: take some cotton off a cotton ball and stick that under the ingrown part of the nail... thats what ive been using for years now and it seems to do the trick

i have two ingrown toenails and whenever i step on either big toe it hurts like a bitch. I cant touch them either. i am waiting until spring to deal with them though

Haha, same thing happened to me last year. Had to get that surgery done twice. Thank god I go to the Mayo Clinic. They don't fuck that shit up.

yup i've had that sergury like 5 times or something, the last time i had it done it was to both big toes and i had a total of like 6 shots on each toe, the compleatly took out the to nail and the root, i had 2 stitches in each toe, i havent had a problem since. i learned my lessons though. soak your feet in epsome(sp) salts in hot water for like 40 minutes if you see the signs and just keep your nails trimmed and what not.

yeah they suck.I had one and it hert like hell.it would puss everywhere and it was so fucking annoying.but it went away after a few months of suffering and luckaly it was in the summer so i dident miss eny skiing

Sorry to get into an in depth discussion on this topic, but...
You should never soak your fett in water when suffering from ingrowing/infected toes...
It promotes decay and can make the situation a lot worse.

really? after a backpacking trip a few years ago my toe nail was ingrown and after he did the whole needles things and cut half of it off he told me to soak it in epsom salt and water everyday for like 20 minutes and it was fine.
eventually it grew back and when I went to get it cut again I didn't even need the needles to numb it. now I can just go in there with a pair of toenail clippers and hack away at it if need be.

I am surprised so many people have this. I got one too, one the big toe and i dont want to go to the doctors. i went once and they gave me an infection med that didnt help so i have to get it cut or what ever but i dont want to do that. I just dont get it. They suck, i was at work and i dropped a box on it and it was bleeding like fuckin crazy, my sock was completely red and my boss sent me home so i didnt gross anyone out.

bingo. cut a straight line. I bought special toe nail clippers from china that are perfectly straight and not "(" shaped. These bad boys put me back 200$... but it was worth it

I've had so much shit done to my toes, i eventually had the roots killed on both big toe using some sort of acid so that the ingrown nail doesnt grow back.

go to a pediatrist, they actually know what they are doing
usually they dont even need to give you local anisthetic, they know where the nerves are, and can cut away the nail wihtout fucking up your toe.

If you've had it surgically cut and stuff, then yeah you're are meant to soak it in a salt solution to help the healing. But, this solution doesn't sit in the toe due to the salt factor, it is soaked up therefore no trouble.
It's when you use just water or anyother solution non salt based that it just sits in the hole left by the nail and goes stagnant and gets infected.

Haven't had that problem in years. The last time was when I cut my nails all funny, so I ended up getting a painful spot on my big toe that turned into an ingrown nail.Â

I had the surgery 2 years ago and I my big toenails have still not grown back. I have a toe with out the nail . they start to come back but they get caught on my socks or get trampled playing rugby and fall right back out.

yeah they do suck, i have had three, once i only had to get pills for it but they didnt work that well. the other two times i had to get surgery on them, not like hardcore surgery but cut out of toenails n shit

if it is ingrown, stuff cotton under it untill it pops out of the skin, this will fix it in about a day. if you do not take care of it, get ready to have a huge pair of sciccors come and rip off your whole nail so it doesn't get gangrenous

jea, when i had mine done they just gave me a couple novocaine shots in my toe and chopped it and wrapped it up and sent me home i was out for about 3-4 days. after that i could ski, bike etc.

I've had both my big toenails cut out twice. Now I'm just shoving cotton under the nail so they wont get ingrown again. My doctor tried to remove part of my right big toenail for good but alas the little bastard grew back... I loath ingrown toenails.

It's not that bad. I had one of my toes done without any freezing because the infection was so bad the freezing wouldn't take and I was ok. The worst part is taking the gauze off after a couple days. It is plastered to your foot that is what hurt the most. You can't walk properly for a week but other than that youre fine.

haha, I took the gauze off the next day to go surfing. I was expecting the salt to hurt like hell but it actually felt fine and healed pretty quickly.
