R.E.D copying Bern??

So I was looking online and I came across the R.E.D Mutiny when I thought it looked really familiar. Then I looked at the Bern Baker that I own and they are nearly identical!? this year you can order all hardhat helmets (macon baker + girl ones) as either hard hats W/ that brock foam or as actual helmets rated to save your head

there was an article out but i cant find it it was on here but it said that some helmets are easly good enough but that the didnt spend the money to prove it and some are rated for waresports like the baker put it still offers a ton more protection then a hat

Bern has a much more progressive helmet construction than Red or Giro, Brock foam will do much more for you than the styrofoam crap in the average Red.

Sucks that the fine people at Burton can't come up with anything new.

Ummm...they are both helemts with brims, there's only so much you can do with a helmet and a brim, that's like saying all twintips are ripoffs of th old 1080, it's just a different companys version or interpretation.

The RED is actually a certifed helmet. And in real life I swear the brim was bigger/longer than the bern. I have a baker.. so I can compare.

Also the new K2 brimmed helmet is dope. Its like 1/2 way btw a bern and a holt.

actually thats pretty sick. i love the style of my baker but it would rock to have some of the audex skullcandy sub headphones attatched to it. although that salomon helmet thats coming out looks way steezy.

You put a bill on a helmet, people happened to like it, other companies copied it. It happens all the time in every industry. I'm sure Bern has borrowed some of their design from other places. Don't get me wrong, I wear a Bern helmet, but this isn't that amazing.

in all honesty, everyone making one of these helmets basically just copied Capix, who, in turn, copied Rawlings or whoever makes those stupid fucking batting helmets for America's National Pastime (note, pastime, not sport), Baseball.

i dont think the brimmed helmet idea is what this thread is getting at. if you stuck the baker, g10 mx, capix, any other brimmed helmet and the new red one together, only the baker and the red would look extremely similar.

All good points, Capix was def. a batters helmet, designed to be worn backwards, or forwards?? That helmet was and is sick, I love Pat Milbury's, that thing is one of the raddest lids ever. I think we were the first to design a fucntional forward wearing visor that was part of the helmet and did not look like a spaceship, maybe other than capix, but ours is our shape not a sort of OEM baseball deal. My only point, and I am just commenting here, is that the point is that one of our competitors models looks exactly like our flagship model helmet the Bern Baker, (available in EPS and Hard Hat two stage Brock)that was everywhere the past two winters, just kind of odd. :)

You can refer to it anyway you want. It is sort of like another model in their line looks just like a giro nine. I just think it is funny that the brand with the most resources in the business plays pool like that sometimes.

All I am doing is commenting on it, trying to talk to you guys. Be alittle more accessible.

But bro, when they put minimum orders for that specific model, when you carry that brand.....it is a little aimed....we are flattered, honestly.

But like I said, all I am doing is just commenting on it, you make your own decision to support whatever brand you want with the money you earn. I still have a ton of repsect for that brand and the others associated with it, busines is what business is, we are just going to keep doing our own thing. I don't have time to comment or read anymore of this thred, peace guys.

I wasn't talking about the g10 and Capix (both came before Bern anyway)...I'm aware that the RED one is a complete ripoff. All I'm saying is that this guy came in here talking like Bern has done something amazing and is now the world leader in helmets, when really they just put a steezy bill on an otherwise standard helmet, and it got copied.

well said. I think i might get the RED though. As Jwalker said, Bern is headed by 3 surf dudes from MA living in a barn. Red has research and development and smart guys working for them and hte proper funding to test their helmets. Still they do look really similar and i think thats low of RED
