Backcountry freeskiers

im getting new skis before next season and they will be backcounty or all mountain skis
i ski at alta so i rarely lap park all day and i mostly ski backcountry kickers, pow, cliffs and such

what i want to know is should i center mount?
i ski switch alot and want agility in switch landings and also solid in park

eeeehh, I wouldnt. I had my Maden's come a few cm's of center, and after I remounted them (long story, they were mounted wrong by my shop in a way that should have broken me - Fuck you REI) a little more back, I actually like them better in pow. I dont really notice anything different landing switch or skiing switch either.

Very few pro's center mount their skis, and even less do so with their pow skis. Center mounting makes your nice floaty pow skis want to sink, and its more work to keep the tips up and let the skis do what they were designed to do. From my experience, I dont think I'll ever center mount my pow skis.

You're just gonna have to ride wide back seat when is deep or choppy, but if your quads can handle it and you really want switch advantage go for it. I would recomend a few cm back from center though, they'll rip with a little less effort.

I agree with rekker, I have the same skis, mounted at like plus 6, before they were plus 3. I do like mine better where they are now. It deppends on the ski you get though. As well as how big you are compared to the size of the ski. The bigger the ski the easier to mount it more forward.

Only if you ride switch more than 50% of the time. As mentioned above, the long-ass tail is going to make you do a lot more work in the pow. It'd also probably be hard to whip around in tight trees and chutes and make your skis less stable when flying through crud.

You shouldn't center mount, but feel free to go a few centimeters forward. I mounted my Salomon Guns at +2 and it's about as forward as I'd want to go on those skis- a few times already this year I've gone over the handlebars for lack of nose.

I wouldn't my jp vs jl are at recomended and they are prob a few cm behind center, and they ride switch great.

I'd go with the line prophet 100s or 130s. I have one pair of 100s mounted on their mark, one pair of 100s mounted 3.5 cm ahead of that. I feel like i can stick landings and ski out better with the pair mounted on the mark, but i think i'd rather have them mounted 2cm forward and that would be about perfect.

i wouldn't mount center if i was riding backcountry, but i live in the east so i wouldn't even know

My Seths are at +5 (which I think is about 6 cm back from true center) and they work really well for charging as well as spinning and landing switch in pow.

i noticed in a line movie on their site erics lizzies and beacons looked pretty center to me

oh and im 5'7" and 115 so im pretty light but im still growing

Go with a little forward, but stay a few cm's back from center. I cant really speak for all pow skis, but thats what I'd recommend for Madens.

stay atleast 4 back from center. if you ski alta i really wouldnt go past recomended

It all depends on the ski.  Making the generalization to mount 2cm back (which is way too far forward, in my opinion) won't work when you get into different sidecuts, flexes, lengths, etc on each ski.

Seths are soft, but you're light so they'd probably work well for you.  I've seen a lot of people riding them in the park, and I've also seen guys competing in big mountain events on them too--although I wouldn't recommend it.  Since you'd be going with one of the shorter lengths mounting them around +3 would be about right or +4 if you want them further forward.

+4 from center would probably NOT be a good idea.

If you're mounting Seths, +4 is probably okay, I wouldn't know for sure. Just watch out for progressive mounting points on newer skis though– the recommended mounting points on some fat twins out there are fairly close to center to begin with.
