depends on what you are better at. ive sucked at backs until recently i took gymnastics. on the tramp i can do frontflips like its nothing and ive landed them everytime on snow but the bad thing is you cant spot your landing. backs are nice cause you see it the whole way but its easy to freak out. its up to you. for fronts learn on at least a 30 footer
try it on a trampoline or diving board first. do a gainer off a diving board. now do the same thing off the jump, and COMMIT to your huck. DON'T pussy out half way through, or you get hurt
find a jump that pops you really high up in the air, dont just huck it, pop first and then just start your flip rotation spotting your landing as soon as you can, but you have to look straight over and get your body to follow. So find a steep kicker and some powder to be safest on your first trys, fronts and backs seem to have pretty high consequences if you wreck, but once you do a few, they arent hard.
i would say backs are easier, not that i can front but my advice is to huck and commit and make sure the jump you have is pretty lippy with a decent landing
Don't huck you'll over rotate and that can hurt. Try one on a powder booter first (providing you can do them on tramps and diving boards) Don't over think them they are just as easy as 3s on really big jumps. Pop off the jump, throw your hips forward and your shoulders backwards and relax until you see the landing
its not the size that matters most of the time, for flips you need something that gives u a good kick. if ur learning them then u also want it to be short
I honestly learnt on jumps that were no bigger than a big mogul and used to trow them off any cut up or cat track I seen and landed maybe 50%, It hurt alot. Then I sacked up and threw one off of a 50 footer and have never missed one off a big jump since. Honestly if you can do gainers comfortably off of diving platforms try a bigger jump in the park and lay it out. if not build a kicker with some powder. Its all commitment and after you do your first one youll be sad that it took that long and how easy it is.
depends on how much lip there is. I have like a 4' jump on my lawn that has so much lip it's almost a quarterpipe, and my friend threw a back off of it
I first thought fronts were easier, but u have to try them off a bigger jump with less kick. then i learned backflips and they r really easy. once u commit ur all good. u really do have to commit, because if u go half way, ur fucked. i even did a buch of them toady on my nordic skis, sooo fun. try learning both.
