Well my hill finally built jump (a crappy little 10' table) for the first ime since december so i decided to try 3's again today. Earlier in the season i couldnt even get close to getting the full rotation. by the end of the day today i had got it all the way around about 5 or 6 times but every time landed WAY in the backseat. like laying down on my skis. how do i stop this?
Pop and look uphill at or around 180, you might feel like a noob, but it will get you muscle memory going so you keep balanced, and dont spot your landing til ur past 180 atleast.
When you do your 360, just look uphill at 180, or not even all the way uphill, maybe where u started or the inrun, and it wil level you out and keep you from landing backseat. Then spot.
Don't think about it so much. Pop off your tips. Like, it makes sense if you think about it. Use the front portion of your ski. It's there for a reason. Pop off your tips, and keep your head level. None of that looking at the ground gnarbage. Go get some!
I don't understand this really, and I'm not really that much of a park skier, but are you saying to like...nollie, almost? Like pressure your tips into flexing and them using that to boost? Cause whenever I pop off a lip like I would to just ollie I end up going into an off-axis (leaning back, cork-ish) type of spin.
Kind of like a Nollie yes. When I pop I try to think about almost popping forward instead of straight up this keeps my weight forward and my shins up against the fronts of my boots.
a 360 is simple think of it as a 180 up to the apex of your air, and a 180 down. If you can find something bigger then 10 ft do it,more time makes things easier.
When people are saying pop of your tips I think the mean pop forward with your hips. Jump forward off the lip not just vertical. This is the best way i have been coached. Avoid twisting your body. Be patient off the lip and try to get the pop then start the spin not start the spin in the pop.
try to learn without the prewind. if you get used to having to huck it around, you won't ever be able to go much farther than a 5. rotate from the core
also think about like leaning forward into the landing, sounds simple and stupid but obviously it helps, but like sum1 else said keep pressure on the front of yo boots
dont wind up on the jump, just look with ur body as soon as you pop, and make sure you do pop. Then try to reach for a safety so that you lean yourself foward
I recall starting out when i'd spin I'd throw my head and that would send me off axis. Then I was riding pipe and a snowboarder mention the turn with their hips in the air. So I started spinning with my hips and it came perfectly. Plus it gives you a solid foundation for adding grabs to your spin because you can look back at your tail, for instance, to grab a reverse tail and still maintain your spin. It is ver important though, cannot stress or repeat it enough, to get your pop. If you have a solid skiing form you know how to ride weight forward, shins pressed into the boots weight on the balls of you feet and heels in the back of you boots and hands in front. I started learning to spin by using a mogul skiing stance, just widening the feet a bit to get the feel down. Once you get the pop and the spin you won't have to think about it as much, I remember all I needed to do to become fluent in spins was to land my first three. I think pre-winding is a bad idea. It causes you to spin before the lip and forget to pop. Just find a jump that's big enough, 2 feet of the ground and 5 feet of travel is NOT big enough. You don't want to have to huck it, that will not give you a feel for the spin or what you are doing. Watch ski videos, even watch some snowboards to see how they spin. focus on you pop, even if it means putting the video on slo-mo standing up in your living room and "shadow" jumping. Focus on your weight forward, get in your ski boots and lean forward practicing your pop. I know these sound a bit extreme, but you'll do lots of crap like that in any other sport ... and it does help.
i can do 3 today but when i was trying switch ones i ate shit the first time then i landed like 4 times in a row but i was landing extreme backseat it got a bit btr each time i landed BUT when the back of my ski is off the lip when taking off switch the tip like catches when i start the rotation and i do pop n shit like ppl here recommend any other recommendations??
The backside ski when you hit something switch is very prone to catching the edge facing your spin. There are a few ways to fix this. A) make sure you're hitting an ideal kicker, wide and smooth. B) Don't spin too soon. C) Lean away from the spin so you lift that inside edge off the ground, this will put you a bit off-axis though, so be ready to reorient yourself in the air.
