As i watched last night pipe comp, i couldnt help but notice that sal is the biggest queermo to ever grace my television screen. when he refered to the skiing field as "ski dudes going big" i could handle it. but when he stood there, posing like an SI model with his goggles that have never been used perched upon his head, he said "i used to make fun of skiers in the pipe, i mean i snowboarded for 13 years" really? did you?

i liked the part last night when one of the annoucers was saying that if you havent heard of tanner hall, you've had your eyes shut to the world of skiing....i thought that was funny. i thought about trying to keep track of all the ridiculously stupid things the commentators said, but i figured it would be too hard...

haha the commentators in general were just lame. for example "for those of you watching at home, amplitutude means how high you are going over the edge of the the pipe" which is something almost everyone knows. Also whenever they mis-identify a spin, it bugs the hell out of me.

i was watching the superpipe xgames and i decided to make a drinking game out of it, and i had a drink every time after one of the announcers said something stupid.....i had to stop the game early because i wanted to actually watch the second pipe run they were broadcasting....they just said too many retarded things that i couldnt keep up

Unless you know Sal then don't make claims about him. He is attempting to bring action sports to the average joe. He is doing his job by exlpaining the sport to people who do not understand it and he is doing a very good job at that. We comprise 2% of the general population. Most people don't know what the fuck they are watching on TV and he breaks it down for them. Sal has been in and around the action sports scene for longer than half of you ass clowns have been alive. He is a surfer, a skater, and a snowboarder and knows more about those and other action sports that you will ever know. Your unsubstantiated claims and opinions make you look like an uneducated tool. Hang out with the dude for a minute before you write such stupid garbage. Sal even said at the end of the night that "tonight was all about the skiing".
He is wearing goggles for the fucking network sponsors. It is his JOB. Do you think that these announcers pick out their clothing? They don't. If you wanna hate on someone, then hate on Douglas for calling out Hatveit for lack of amplitude (while he was throwing the techiest run of the night) or for his general commentary that is pushing our sport in the wrong direction (ignoring anything stylish in favor of size of the hit).
Some of you kids need a swift kick in the nuts...

I read that the x-games brings sports that 2% of the US population follow regularly to the masses. That is why it happens twice a year (1 in winter and 1 in summer). It claimed that it would not be nearly as successful if it was on more often because of the lack of interest outside of those 2 weeks.

Sals been with xgames since almost the beggining and hes been around espn and other extreme sports for a very long time. He knows what hes doing.
You have to realize that the majority of ppl watching the x games dont know as much about skiing as we do. There just there to watch it and be amazed by somone going really big and doing 3 spins with a funky grab.

Ive gotta say i was'nt sure what to think about Sal's comments last night. I must say...even if he was attempting to give skiing props, he made himself look like a kook when he said "I used to scoff at skiers in the pipe, and Ive been snowboarding for 17 years." This is exactly the bullshit that snowboarders from San Deigo would say years ago. Alot of guys like this that really did'nt grow up in the mountains had no real clue what was going on in the mountains...would try to disrespect skiing. But again He might have been trying to give skiing props, but sort of put his foot in his mouth.
Its nothing amazing that the guy is a surfer, and skater too, so are alot of people who ride snowboards or skis including myself. It just seemed a bit lame to me that a guy boasting that He has been "snowboarding for 17 years" thought that was some major accomplishment that would somehow give him the "cred" to make a comment about skiers in the pipe. Many people including myself who are involved in the industry, or on the hill everyday, after 25 or 30 years in the mountains can't help but "scoff" back at a dude that mentions 17 years doing his thing. Aside from his couple off color comments, he did attempt to give skiing some props, and He seems to be a pretty nice guy.

The best is watching skiing pipe then snowboarding pipe, and they are both like THAT HIT WAS HUGE, but skiing they are like Thats at about 22 feet there, and i swear today, the announcer said LOOK AT THAT BIG HIT, HES LIKE 11 OR 12 FEET OUT! Fucking sean pettit did 9s that big like 3 years ago.

Anyone who is saying Mike Douglas is a bad commentator is wrong, and should go read the Cream blog entry with his interview in it for an explanation on why he makes such obvious statements. If you're too lazy to do that, then here's the gist of it:
Mike Douglas is announcing for the average Joe and Jane who have no idea what the hell they're watching, not for us skiers. We don't NEED the commentary to understand what's going on, we know by just looking at it. If he told us "Tanner will be dropping in switch" or "mute grab on that one" it wouldn't help us, because we already know what that is. If some rando was watching, and Mike Douglas said "Tanner will be dropping in switch", they'd be confused. What the hell is switch? What the hell is a mute grab? It has been said many times and I'll say it again: If you don't like the commentary just mute the damn TV and watch it in silence.

He still sucks imo, and he is all about spin to win. Whenever someone tries to do something different (Stefan in the pipe, Tron in Best Trick last year) he just says they need to practice more so that one day they can win. I'm sure he knows full well that Stefan can do more than a 3 in the pipe, and he doesn't even try to explain why he is doing that.
