I do downhill most of the time, but all my buddies are starting to hit up the park. So, I was wondering what the deal was with skiboards. Fun? Kinda gay? what are peoples thoughts on these, and is it easy to learn? Also, recommendations on what type to get, they are looking more appealing for $200 then a $600 twin tip set up.
Never mind, upon reading other posts, I have learned that skiboards are "lame". If anyone disagrees leme know why. I was just thinking that they're unusual and not alot of people use em.
^Basically what he said. Don't go out and buy a pair, but if you have access to some, they're worth a try. Just be sure to bring your regular skis for when you get bored of the skiblades.
All Biases and judgement over wheter skiblades are "gay" or not aside, DON'T BUY THEM. I kinda started on skiblades, and they are a good learning tool if you don't know how to ski yet. That's about it. In about 2 days you will have pretty much reached your limits of what you can do on them, speed wise, trick wise etc....
On Skis you can:
Ride faster
Ride with more stability
Get more pop when jumping.
Land MUCH easier and softer
i once too asked a similar question, just so i could learn more. i wanted to know some real reasons why skis were better than skiboards, and i got some real help that made me realize i had made a mistake in buying skiboards.
ok if you get snowblades you will be gay, if you decide to get them anyways take them of like a 50 foot booter and see what happens when ya try to land, you wont no matter how hard ya try you wont theres not enough underfoot for them to be stable sure you can spin 7's off of nothing but you will never land them this is the end of my post just spend 350 for used twin tips that are in good condish off of here
I got a pair and I dont think they're gay. Of course I also have 2 other pairs of regular skis but theyre just fun to have for those boring days when you wanna fuck around. I picked mine up for about $25 at some ski swap practically brand new. Dont bash them until you've tried them, its actually quite different from regular skis because you cant really carve with them. Its just a different experience that can be fun. Also a nice accesory for gaper day.
I skiboarded last year and actually enjoyed it. As has been mentioned before, they're fun to mess around on, but if you're looking for a stable ride, skiboards are not it. They're not for everybody. While fun, there's no way I would go back to skiboards from twin tips.
you dont have to pay full price for a brand new pair of twin tip skis, just get used ones online or from a store that sells used gear.
nothing against skiboards, but they will totally suck if you ever feel like being serious at all. But on a ski website like this, what answer did you really expect?
i used a pair of old mikenicks pros for a few runs. those things are sketch as can be. i dont know how anyone could ever muster up enough speed to clean a jump on those things, let alone even land.
