I'm sick of the commie bastards at work. We divide our tips among everyone who works that day evenly. That's socialism my friend. First hand you get to see the obvious downfalls of the system.

If are good at your job, generally friendly, helpful and relate to random people, you will get tipped. That's how it works. If you put more effort into doing this, you get tipped more. Generally, I earn 50%-100% more tips than what the payout is at the end of the day. Yesterday was a huge tournament and I ended up with 1/4 of what I earned. The system works fine for someone who is an average worker, it gives them security of knowing a bad day won't fuck em over. It's great for a bad worker, everyone likes free money. But it has no benefits for a hard worker. In a smaller economy (such as the one at work, 3 or 4 on during a normal day, 7 on during a really busy one) there is more insentive to work hard, you get a payout that you can see even if it is 1/4 or 1/7 of all tips you make. In a large economy (such as the one the USSR had) working hard doesn't help you because the numbers are so large, working lazily doesn't affect your pay either.

Some people love the system and follow it blindly at work, saying how you can have unlucky days (this is true) where some people just don't tip well or others tip really well and its not an indication of your work. I caught some guy trying to pocket tips yesterday because 'he deserved it'. The guy made the same amount in tips I did but he fucks everyone else over, including me.

The more shit is controlled by the government the more socialist a country is... like factories and jobs, government doesn't really control it.. but what about railways and mail??? every country has some socailism it is just a matter of how much... but all in all socialism sucks balls. And with the tips, at a restaurent or whatever it really does have a lot of other factors... like, how the people tip, if their food was good (you can't control that shit)... so some sort of spliting of tips is required. But not spliting all the tips... maybe like half... or a 1/4 or something would average it out fairly.

You could consider all public welfare services (also known as SOCIAL services) to some degree to be socialist. This includes medicare, roads, employment insurance, education, national security, the list goes on. Everybody pays in through taxes albeit its not equal pay in, but equal payout for most things. This is analogous with my situation. Although generally socialism generally means the controlling of monetary economy, it could also mean the controlling of an economy of services. Almost every country has a certain degree of socialism (and if its run correctly, its great for the citizens of that country) including the United States and Canada.

If we were to live in a totally capitalist state, everyone would do everything for their own personal gain and not a community gain. Either you would be charged to use certain services which are privately owned (ie, most of the health services in the US, higher education, etc). Some things may not even exist as they do today or perhaps at a higher or lower level. Roads in and around cities or busy highways would be in tremendous shape but you would have to pay a year sum or toll for use of them. There of course would be no taxes or minimal taxes. This could elimanate the use of government by quite a bit if laws were removed too, but if there were no police, it would be hard to enforce them.

I work at a golf course. Its not like we have to pay a portion of our tips to bus-boys or dish-washers like restaurants do. Everyone does the same job and has equal chance at tips.

2) Yes in both the philosophical (belief in free will) and in the economic sense I am a firm believer in Libertarianism. When everyone else has let you down, you still have yourself to trust.

That sucks that you have to share tips. I caddy and basically get paid in tips so I can relate. It is nice having some control over how much you make, but sharing tips completly eliminates this.

we do the same thing at my job...but it makes sense because i work at an ice cream/food service place...so if your workin the grill you still recieve tips..so at my place it makes sense,

It really depends. Even if you cook the food the same way everyday, you will get different tips. You have the friendlyness of your table servers to thank. Most of the time, tips are directed towards tableservers and how well they deal with people. You get more tips for how well they depend. A certain amount of the tip money should be cut for you depending on the quantity of food you prepare. On busy days, when you must work harder, you get a larger amount of money from the tips. But these same days it makes sense that the servers also make more money.

Its not that I'd be fired, but it would piss off all my fellow workers. I'd be alienated and no one would help me if I ever needed a day off. They'd leave me shit jobs to do when their shift was ending, etc.

If I pocket like 50% of the tips, and give as much as the average guy, It'll look like I am inputting my share, and I am inputting the average share. But I still make my original tips back. Is this fair?

the food service industry does suck. you work at times when everyone goes out and the breaks are usually non existant unless theres a really slow night I've yet to see any back of the house tips thanks for reminding me.

well where i work it would be impossible not to split the tips..b/c no on has a set job. you hop from the grill to the window to the counter to dishes..pretty much do all of that different stuff every night...I work at an ice cream place that has a grill with burgers and ribs and stuff...and the only reason it doesnt suck is b/c i work with 19 hot chicks.
