Video Camera help

So I do some photography and I am looking to get into video editing. My parents are gonna be very generous and spot me money for a camera and editing software (because i made deans list). I have a computer designated for editing photos, and Im gonna make it a video editing station too. So, what is the best camera that is not very rediculously priced, and what software should I get?

panasonic pv gs series (180, 500 and other numbers i dont remember) all have good image quality and are affordable. read my review of the pv-gs180 under the review section
