so, i've been able to get 3's and 5's with a regular consistancy, however I need style and so I want to add in a grab. It seems that whenever I try and add in a grab my balance and my rotation gets thrown off. I need some suggestions/help.

keep your hands in front of you when you land, and focus on the landing spot it and lean foward. i always got thrown backseat. and try simple grabs like safteys first then work your way up!

stay lower and tuck your legs and a safety should come naturally. when i started tucking my legs, i just sorta started grabbing safety/toxic naturally

I didn't learn how to grab until after I learned 7's. Just get reallly comfortable with doing 3's and you'll find htem really easy.

try just pulling your legs up and putting your hands down first. that way your used to being in that position. then start doing safety, and the rest will come with practice.
diving boards are good too, helps your air sense.
visualize trick and the grab, see yourself grabbing.
then set your trick, grab, then stomp.
bottom line just practice. do alot of straight airs and grab those sticks, and just get used to that position.

what i was doing for a while was reaching for my grabs
didnt even notice until this summer when i went to water ramps and the coaches immediatly were like "everything will be 100 times easier if u bring the grab to u"
so idk that may be what u do it may just be a habit or something, but to get the feel of bringing the grab to you, then just hit some jumps and bring a safety up to u. dont spin, i know u will look like a joey for a few runs in the park, but after that everything will be sooo much easier.
when u think about it, it really makes sense. if u did a 5 and just brought ur legs up, but didnt grab, it would be on axis and u should hopefully stomp it. if u put ur arm down, ur center of gravity is way off from the beginning so the spin will be slower, ugly, and u wont land.
and also make sure u dont grab until u are like 90 to 180 around. make the spin first priority and the grab a second.

ok man, just right off the bat, trampolines or anyway of spending time in the air will help you alot, just make sure your spins are fully comfortable. you need to learn this order, pop, set rotation, spin, grab, stomp. if your rotation didnt come out right then there is probably something messed up in that order. and like these guys said bring the grab to you, BE THE GRAB.

i have the same problem as you man, everyone keeps telling me to set the spin first, and dont grab until you feel your spin is going right.

I kind of lean forward a bit when I pop, and mutes come naturally, so idk. But leaning forward (for me) seems to help if you are landing backseat

get your straight grabs down, then when you come off the jump into a spin throw your outside shoulder and try an easy grab with that hand? watch your landing, let go when you come around??? dont lean back!!

The reason people usually get off axis while trying to grab their spins is they are going for their grab before they set their spin. (or they are scared and spinning early.)
Working up to it:
If you have a place to practice, such as a trampoline, etc. that will help you the most. Work on them till you can do them in your sleep, using the steps below. (If you don't have access to a trampoline, don't worry, you can still get it.) On snow, practice spinning tucked up 3's. Try to get them both with your skis parallel and crossed up. Once you have those down, then you can add your grab.
Try these steps:
1)Pop and set your spin a little harder than you would a normal spin, keeping your eyes on the horizen. (Once you get them solid you can look wherever you want, but for starters, keeping your eyes level is important to keeping you on axis.) Also, make sure you wait for your pop and don't spin before you leave the lip. Unwind your upper body right as you pop off the lip.
2)Once you're in the air, tuck up and go for the grab. Think of bringing the skis up to you instead of bending over to grab your skis.
3)Try to stay tight in the air, hold your grab as long as feels comfortable, and then spot your landing like a normal 3 or 5.
4)Once you get this you can start working on style. Think about staying tight in the air. Picture the position you want to be in if someone was going to take a pic of you, then concentrate on that while you're in the air. It helps to practice your grabs without a spin so you can get the feel of the position you will be in, then try to add it into your spin.
