If your sons or daughters want to talk to you about joining the U.S. Army, immediately inform them of the corruption and hate that fills the military. The Army offers over 150 job opportunities that endanger and make other people's lives a hardship. To learn more about military propaganda visit goarmy.com/for_parents.

Don't hate on the Army too much. As much as I disagree with some of the things that the Army is involved with, I still have a huge amount of respect for those men and women who choose to risk their lives by joining the Army and defending our country. As cliche as that sounds they really are out there exposing themselves to danger so we don't have to. Do you want the draft reinstated?...Cause I sure don't.

so how is telling them how corrupt it is letting them think for themselves? I understand that you're battling their propaganda, but I don't see how showing them the other extreme is helpful. Let them do research, let them hear everything, including your thoughts (which you should not force on them) and then let them decide. THAT'S how you become strong and independent in thought.

forfun, do you know how shitty your life would be without the u.s. military? i will say again you are one of the most ignorant members on this site. I hate to be the douchebag who says it but leave this country if you dislike the way it is run, go to jamaica and live there if you are the true Rastafarian you think your are, i think you will be surprised life isn't as good there as it is here in the US of A.

^ your not the only one that thinks so. it's not the army you should be hating on, its the way it is run by our government. support the troops, for they are the ones dying for your country. a good more than 3/4 of them would rather be at home, instead of fighting in the war, preparing for it, etc..

I would never join the army. Fuck that, die for my country? I'll just not be a part of the country anymore and move to canada.

Canada's not the greatest. Actually, your government is much more 'for the people' than Canada I'd say.

AMEN. If your country is not dying for then you are not worth what your country has given to you. Go somewhere else where you can be disrespected by your country as much as you disrespect it. I'm sure you'll find that it's a much better place than here.

I'm guessing you know very little about what actually goes on in the war, army, and how much the government does for you. Stay off the weed, and maybe look into something that will give you more knowledge about any of this.

this whole thread is stupid, of course the US's positions at the current time in the middle east are deff questionable, but its not like the soldiers decide where we fight. as for many soldiers its not like they dont know what there getting into when they join the army, lets face it soldier=the possibility of dieing, you would have to be an idiot to not know that. and with the army there are plenty of oppurtunities that alot of these people wouldnt either be able to afford or do with out the army.

i agree to support the troops, but talk to any U.S. soldier and they will tell you to support their cause in iraq, you actually are wrong about that in every way...the majority of them think that they have every reason to be there and want to finish their goals before they leave.

Yeah I definately agree. I mean is it really so hard to just take your position in life and live it happily without bashing what other people decide to do? People who join the military join for a reason, in most cases it's an imformed desicion and they know the possibilities of what their getting into.
If your not a fan of the military then fine, but for god's sake keep your peace and shut up about it because bitching about it in a retarded uneducated way isn't going to change anyones opinions. Furthermore, researching possible "conspiracies" and finding out the truth for yourself is something to pursue in a place of higher learning such as college or university where you can take classes on the stuff and learn to think for yourself, instead of taking the word of some neo-liberal leftist website as the truth.
This is a retarded place to argue about these things, there are enough professors, lawyers, and Noam Chomskys out there to analyze the world and make decisions. Please consider that half the opinions you probably formulate with any so called evidence is probably bullshit despite your ego's best attempt and let things be.

haha ya; St Mikes must be a joke, in it's entirety, because the admissions office made a mistake. If you want a real joke school, I could list multiple 'mistakes' that UVM made in just one semester that I was there.
It's rather pitiful when you can't come up with a clever response (your original 'st mikes boy' post) so you have to come up with something as stupid as the college somebody plans on attending. I apologize for not attending Harvard.

You know what? I skipped over this entire thread because I already knew this would turn into a shit slinging fest of pro-republicans and pro-democratics. I don't know much about American politics but I do know it sure does divide you Americans quite a bit worse than us Canadians.
Back to the bullshit of corruption and propaganda...Wake up! Everything can be considered propaganda and you could probably argue that your parents words are propaganda if you wanted to. Think for yourselves for once and don't base you're knowledge and understandings off the god damn internet.\

ok lets review the "evidance" that i have put on the table.
1. "soldier=the possibility of dieing"
i feel like there is no reason to have to explain this.
2. "with the army there are plenty of oppurtunities that alot of these people wouldnt either be able to afford or do with out the army."
this is not something that i have just decided to say without thought, but the fact is most familys cant afford to send there kids to college with out loans, and if you have bad credit getting these loans are very hard. now i live in a town that is considered to be fairly wealthy but even still family have a hard time paying tuitions that can rise up to over $100,000 for your standard 4 year college. now the military does offer programs in which people can recieve some of the same experiances and educations as they do in college with out haveing to pay these crazy fees. now i know, very very, very smart people that have joined the army and gone on to have very sucessful lives. but if were jumping to clean cut facts, the majority of the recruits for the army are below middle class citizens, who come from house holds thats yearly income is not even comparable to the one of mine. and how are they expected to pay for college and higher education? the truth is they cant unless they do something about it. and some of them the only choice is to go in to the army.
all im trying to say is that in no way have i let my ego bullshit some formulated opinions and in fact im just stateing what i know. and that i think we should support the troops and that i personaly support the decisions that my/our government has made by which invading iraq.

okay, well every hard working american that makes decent money would probably be mad at how much the people that join the army make. the people in the army get so much benifits that its almost mind boggling, like if your married you get more money? what? 30 years later your son gets a 2,000$ scholarship because you were in the army? what?. and what did they do? your too stupid to go to college, so you join the army and you basically live of the gov't. somebody's gotta do it, but seriously... cant the gov't spend money somewhere else? whatever.

meant in the way that instead of 'fighting' for their country, keeping the peace is what they want. and sadly, fighting is the way it's being done. and yes, the majority of them do believe that they must be there, for they are helping to keep the peace, even with the made chaos.

Few things. The military is one of the most important part of a country. I am planning on joining the Canadian military after University.
If you don't support the troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
For those of you who keep saying they would avoid a draft, or never join the military....I have a quote for you.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded
state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is
much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight,
nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable
creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the
exertions of better men than himself."
- John Stuart Mill
To the rest of you who know what the military stand for and respects what they do, my hats off to you.

dude that was the dumbest thing i have ever seen anyone say in my life, no joke. those men leave their families for years at a time to go get shot at and risk their lives to better their country. you dont have to be stupid to join the military, you just have to support your country and believe in a cause. you should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking that soldiers dont deserve money for their families.

i usually have a 4:1 kill death ratio in counter-strike, im thinking of joining the army.
i don't buy for a second that the only choice these kids have is the army. if you want to make something of yourself, work hard in school and get the scholarships. there are plenty out there. there are bursaries as well. you can also get a loan from the government to pay for school, but you will be in debt when you leave college, but it still leaves out the option of joining the army. its their choice so don't act like they never did have a choice. while you drink your starbucks coffee heavily laden down with cream and sugar because you're not man enough to drink it black, please shed a tear for these kids less fortunate then you with no choice but to join the army voluntarily due to their socio-economic status. i think you've all watch platoon way too many times. and who taught you to think that it is all poor kids that join the army? the liberal media or faranheit 911. pick one. by the way, you're easily influenced.
and you wouldn't fight for your country? thats lame. if another scenario developed like that of world war 1-2 you wouldn't take up the same duty that your grandfathers before you did? i would, its about honor and respect.
