Snowmaking began overnight on Saturday. With these cold temps I hope to start shaping later in the week. I'll keep you updated. In the mean time we still have 5 features on Daves.
Construction starts tonight. Look for pretty much just jump setups for the weekend. We're going to leave the rails on Daves and worry about them after the weekend. I'll try to post some pics in the next day or two.
Poleyskier "poley already has jumps :) since last sunday"
Nice to see Poley finally grab a glove and get in the game. We've had 5 rails and boxes setup since December 16th (yes that was before Poley opened) :-).
We built the showtime booter last night. It's a little different from past years designs but should be good. The Snow needs to setup a bit and some tweaking today so the Ski Out is closed but the Jib Park on Daves is still up and will be for the weekend.
Tonight I'm heading back up and will build at least one more table and start ramp and maybe put in one of the big rails. We'll see how long I can stay awake.
The Terrain Park will be open for the weekend and will extend down onto Daves with the Jib Park.
Sunday night I'm tearing down the Jib Park and moving it into the Terrain Park.
i hit the jumps today and yesterday the middle one needs a bit of work but the last one is perfect, super flowy, nice steep landing, definitley the best jump ever made at crabbe.
great job jolly
I ran out of Snow while building the upper jump. Also couldn't do much for tweaking Friday night as the snow was too soft to do much with it. So we shaped as best we could and will go from there.
Snowmaking is coming back to the park on Tuesday me thinks. When they come back over to the park side of the mountain.
All should be good for the weekend. My new and improved plans see me leaving everything on Daves...for now, putting up the Flat Down and A Frame in the park. There is also a box in Freddy that I've been trying to coordinate getting up to the mountian since before we opened. I never dreamed something so easy could be so difficult.
I'm also going to try and get the c-rail skirted soon as well. Anyone have any ideas on what to use for skirting that can bend that but won't bust as soon as the first rider falls off on the inside?
As of last friday, I doubled the height of the Jump in the middle of the park. I also setup the Flat Down.
Last night I went up and skirted and installed the puckboard on the new Box that Richard built. It's a beaut. Two feet wide, 24 feet long. I moved it to the top of the park and pushed a little snow around it and built a ramp onto it. Once a few riders hit it, we'll tweak as needed.
Friday night I'll be back in the park to finally get the A Frame Setup.
Things are looking good! Will post pics next time I'm up in the day light.
the middle jump should be turned in to a complete step up cut the jump back 3 or 4 feet and make it kicky that would be sick. how it is right now theres not enaught gap and its easy to overshoot
Added the Kids Flat Rail and Kicker Rail to Daves, just below the Rainbow and now buried Kids Fun Box last night. We are now up to 12 features. Hope to go back at it maybe Friday night.
I added more kick to the Second Jump last weekend and I heard good things. Still may push it back.
jolly, sckest skiing in so long, but i thought the kicker rail was set up poorly because its soo hard to get speed for!! just thought i would mentiong that hope it gets better
For those that did not hear, a groomer broke on Friday, so Jolly lost access to the other groomer to fix the park this weekend. Sorry. He should be back in the cab around the 22nd again.
In the meantime, there are still pow stashes all over the mountain.
Reworked the jumps last night. Built up the landings and the take offs. Also built piles for the handrail and uprail. As soon as the races finish up today we're going to start digging out rails and moving them to the park. Tomorrow should be good!
Jump Line
1st Table - Reworked landing
Showtime Booter - Built up the take off and added more kick to it.
Jib Line
Box - Shaped Take off and landing
Handrail - Completely rebuilt, removed rail, reshaped the snow and reset up. (This took a long time). It's setup street style of course
Flat Box - Completely rebuilt, removed, reshaped the snow and reset.
Up Rail - Shaped Take off and landing
Flat Down - Groomed
I'm hoping Gregor gets some pics today as the park looked amazing last night. We did not get to the stuff still on Daves as it was 2:30 in the morning and I had to work at 8. That will be Friday night's project. For Saturday I hope to setup the C-Rail, Kicker Rail and Mini Wall ride where the features were on Daves. (Big Larry is suppose to skirt the c rail and mini wall ride for me for Friday) Once that is complete, I'm going to rework the the Kids Park. Maybe move it to where there is a little more pitch.
Quote from a snowboarder on Saturday;
"The park is in the best shape it has ever been in. Ever!"
Sunday was a perfect spring day. A touch of rain in the early AM then sunny perfect conditions. And there was barely a soul here. What gives? It is 5:50 and there is still a crew out there session the park.
Our park is still going strong. The only thing missing at the moment is the wall ride, which I might try and fix for the weekend. This looks like it will be the final weekend so get up here kiddies. Wentworth Passes work at Crabbe.
I'm not 100% as there seems to be a bunch of ideas running back and forth. I'm not really organizing it, just throwing my 2 cents in. Here is what I know.
I'm refreshing the Park Tonight and Friday Night, so it will be mint for Saturday.
I've got a sound system, generator, tents, picnic tables, and a BBQ coming to the park for Saturday. Elusive is supplying a DJ.
I know we have at least one pair of skis to give away.
It's also dress up day, so come out, dress up or down, and have some fun.
Saturday night is the Crabbers Bash, need a season pass or lift ticket to get in.
Sorry, forgot to update. Basicaly what JollyJ just said. It ain't a comp just a good vibe jam session starting at 1pm. $2 will get your name in a draw for various goodies including a pair of Elan twintips & bindings, goggles, tshirts, Super Value Card for 07-08 season, etc...
Thanks to all who made it out this past weekend. The park was prime, weather was nice, good vibes all around.
Also want to thank everyone who made our park a huge success this winter. Next year will be bigger and better. Lots of ideas starting to flow in already.
If you have any footage from the weekend send it to me and I'll post it. skipatrol at crabbemountain dot com.
