okay i need a new pair of skis. i would like to buy a good 50/50 all mountain park/pipe ski. by all mountain i mean mostly groomers but also once in a while the backcountry. i am looking for something between 172-182. i am 6'2" and 165 lbs. please give me some advice..thanks
i have this years ARVs and i love them in the park, very soft and incredibly light. Theyre amazing in soft snow and pow and fun to play on groomers. HOWEVER when i get into some hard snow, very fast speeds, or ice theyre pretty bad. Little too soft for this sort of stuff. BC's or prophet 90s would be good too, its all oppinion.
thanks for all the suggestions..
i have a couple questions now tho..
i heard the karmas are as stiff as a 2x4 and i would like a softer ski, something around a medium flex or softer..
i like the foils...the graphic is dope and the dimensions are perfect but im not sure which size would be right. a 174 or the 182. my hill is small, i live in michigan so its not very big of a hill so i dont think that i need quite as long of a ski.
also size and flex advice on the
prophet 90s
chronic blends
last years 1080 guns
arv
public enemy
you seriously think that ski is heavy? have you ever picked up a pair of regular carving skis? karmas are super light weight for what they are.
also, as many others have said, for what you are looking for, i think the PE in a 174 or 179 would be ideal. you could ski either size, but if you plan on mounting them forward of standard (and you should, at least +3cm forward), then get the 179. its a medium flexing ski that will still handle soft snow well, but kills it on groomers too. there are better park skis out there for sure, but for an all mtn ski that also skis the park well, the PE is a solid choice.
definitely get foils in 182, your tall. and at 15 your still likely to grow some more. 182 isn't that long anyway. also look at chronic blends in the 179, they would also be a solid option. and karmas are nice, they'e more expensive though, but they're pretty stiff, but still fun (as opposed to the old heads, those were too stiff).
all of the chronic line up are pretty stiff but still dope for what u want. prophet 90's i've never been on but i demoed the 100 last year and it's money.. still though, i don't know if prophet's will do you good on park/pipe.
i recommend you look into the 04/05 line mike nicks, they have an 86 waist and they have an awesome flex pattern for park/allmountain.. u probably could get them cheap too.. if you find them.
yea thats what i was thinking...i am really likeing the chronic blends. the sidecut is perfect and the graphic is amazing. they are a medium flex ski and arent that expensive. i heard that line measures around the tip..like not tip to tip on the topsheet but tip to tip on the bases with the curve. is this true? because then that would probably make the 179s like 177/176..so not too bad?
I have PE's... they prob wouldnt deal with the backcountry the greatest on a pow day. They can rip the goomers and park though and can deal with abit of pow. they fit in your wiast with selection (there 88)
okay i didnt want to make a new thread so i am reviving this one.
i have changed my mind around some on what im going to ski next year and i need some more advice on some new sticks.
i had some 179 blends on hold but i cancelled it because i was advised to wait until next years skis come out.
i am 6'2" 170 lbs and i am going to be skiing 65-70% park and the rest all mountain. and by that i mean mostly groomers but every once in a while we get a storm and get to ski some powder. i live in michigan so that isnt very often.
i would like something somewhere between 178-185 and a waist from like 85-92.
thanks for your help.
ps. if it matters i will be riding with new spk boots for next year.
elan mo2.2:that is what I have and are the best skis I've skied so far, except for pipe
head mojo m90: if you like it stiff
volkl: if you like to spend a lot
if you take the salomon: take it long. I demoed the 182 and I am 173cm so quite taller than me and they were just a tad too long if not perfect
many lines: never tried lines so cant tell
k2 pe: cant go wrong
armada is good from what I heard
i rode the foils for 50/50 and they were the shit!!! but the edges are like racing edges and when i took em for a tune-up 2 monthes after buying and they couldent sharpen the edges under foot cause they were to worn down...also im smaller than u so yeah
