Im going to say this and get flamed but... Blink, sum41 and all the other pop punk bands are pretty good and most people bash them because they are popular and they take pride in liking underground shit and dissing pop shit. I could see it being cool if you liked a band when they had only 5 fans. I could see why you would kinda get mad when millions of other ppl started liking them after they got on mtv but thats no reason to diss the band. Blink sells more records than 504plan because blink is good, thus appealing to a lot of people. What does that make you when you stop liking a band because they get popular and you think you are cool for disliking that band? Id say the teeny boppers (who most 'core' ppl absolutely despise) are more core than the ppl who stop liking blink or sum41 when they get big, I mean those ppl listen to the cd like 13 times a day and love the music, whats wrong with that?
Sort of related to this arguement, why is 'real punk' fun to listen to? Dont get me wrong, my freind is a 'hardcore' punker and I get exposed to everything and enjoy a lot of it, as I enjoy all forms of music, I guess you could call me an audiophile, but the music is sloppy and the vocals are screechy/whiny/out of tune/whatever, whats the appeal? (Im playing devils advocate so someone can prove that they are not just posers) Back to the pop punk thing, my freind once referred to sum41/blink182 as 'power cord punk', kinda self explanitory, it sounds good, clean, powerful, energetic, dont tell me those songs arent catchy, even if youre 13yr old sister worships mark hoppus. No you really cant qualify blink182 as a punk band persae, but who cares about labels? (sorry my thoughts are getting all jumbled now and this might post might sound wierd but I dont have much time to sit here and think, I have to do a lot for school tomorrow)) Personally I like 'real punk' because of its fast paced, energetic, passionate feel, and of course the lyrics are generally written with passion and sometimes totallyh light hearted and not meant to be taken seriously. Bash on the studio bands like Nsync and O-town all you want, because theyre lyrics are generally not written by the bands, the music is performed by an outside source and the whole thing is meant to make money (unless Im wrong but it just doesnt seem like real music). I guess Im just trying to say dont hate bands just because it is cool to do so.
