6,100 vertical feet, 60 feet of snow per year (720 inches -> think Baker, but lighter) and eventually 5000 acres of terrain (putting it at no. 3 behind Whistler and Vail)

We really do not need these mountains. The time for these resorts to get approval is ridiculous. They are just popping up everywhere to feed the need for the Olympics. But what will happen when the hype and tourism from these mountains die down? Well, our government is going to look like idiots after spending billions on new resort that are no longer full because there are too many. The interior should stay as it is because it is untapped and is a true wilderness. Whistler is amazing but we do not need them everywhere. It destroys cultures, communities and the easygoing way of life in the mountains.

id have to agree about the Olympic rush being behind some of these mega resorts. How hard is it to get to revelstoke anyways? I always thought it was out of the way north but well worth the drive. Isnt mike weiglies heli skiing (sp) up there?

First off this project is on the opposite side of the province from the olympics, i don't get why they would build project for the olypics? And there not even making a new resort there just putting huge facelift on a current resort arent they?

This has nothing to do with the Olympics. They have been wanting to build a resort on Mt. Mckenzie for 25 years, it just has never happened. It appears now that at least something will happen. If everything goes to plan it will rival Whistler, but not for at least 10-15 years. It is also much harder to get to than Whistler. People complain about Whistler being hard to access, a 2 hour drive from one of the biggest airports in Canada, and the the number one pacific port of entry from asia for the whole of the northwest. Revelstoke is 6-6.5 hours from Vancouver, 5 from Calgary, and 2.5 from Kelowna. Kelowna is an international terminal but very small, and currently only serviced by Horizon Air out of Seattle and Spokane.

I personally see this having a better Chance than Jumbo. Jumbo is in the middle of nowhere, and you would directly pass Panorama resort on the way (You would pass Silver Star on the way from Kelowna to Revelstoke, but Silver Star is fairly small). Revelstoke is already established and there exists a population to draw employees to both construct and run the resort. Jumbo would have to draw from Invermere, a fair distance away. Also, with this gondola deal, Revelstoke has the edge on timing. Revelstoke is already home to a whole bunch of Cat and Heli operations, and people have no problem shelling out thousands of dollars for those. The amount of snowfall is like nothing outside of Baker, Jumbo wouldn't compare.

I say goodluck to the developers. I'd love to ski there.

My dad is the construction manager for a company called Vic Van Isle in revelstoke and they are building most of the buildings and condos at there, and all the plans for the buildings,chair lift layouts and all that good stuff is sitting 10 feet away from me. its sick i get to see all the blueprints and we get a condo half price cause his companies building it.its hot shit.

The resort will spend about $40 million on mountain upgrades in the next three years....that means they'll pull a Kicking Horse and thrown in two real lifts, and leave the rest of the mountain hard to reach.

That $1B number is B.S. There's no market for that in Revelstoke. It's in the middle of nowhere, relatively speaking.

No major cities within a comfortable drive, poor access to the U.S. market, even though there's nothing that huge to access near the border anyways.

It's going to be a great resort, but it'll never have anything more than 2 lifts.

I wonder how KHMR feels about it.
