Me and my friend were having an argument about this the other day. Can you drive on your own in BC when your're sixteen, or is it 18? I really need to know, it's important.

Sixteen for a learner's permit, then 6 months for a new driver license (can't drink at all and drive and have to have a green N on your car), and then 18 months for a full license. Each stage involves a test. Disregard this if they've changed it since I did the whole thing, or if my memory doesn't serve. But I think that's right.

Also while you have your N your not supposed to have more than one non immediate family member in your car unless you have someone in your car in the passenger seat who is over the age of 25.

16 for your L - One year period
After that one year period you get tested, book early, tests are booked like a full 3 months in advance.
Then you get your N, two year period.
All the while you only have 4 points to lose. Speeding is 3, driving without your L or N is 2. Etc.
If you get 4 points you have to start over, either the L or N period. It sucks.
Then you take another driving test to get your class 5 FULL.
3 Years MINIMUM to get your full licence. Most likely closer to 4 years with all the tests.

Do you really want to drop a grand on getting driving lessons just to shorten in by 3 months? My brother took driving lessons, the cheapest available in Van to qualify was 950$, and it was like 6 weeks of 1x weekly 3 hour sessions in the class and 2-3x weekly 1.5 hour driving sessions.

Hell, I drive a pickup, at one point I had almost 20 people in the cab and box total, going from the bar to a house party in blueberry. Hurrah for DD.

Ughhh, lucky you! I got a ticket for not having my L 3 years ago - 2 points, and I got a speeding ticket this fall on the way to the airport with my N 2 points. I'm 3 months away from getting my full and I just got a driving prohibition yesterday. Fucking retarded, 4 points in 3 years, 2 months prohibition.

yeah, taking driving lessons from young driver's meant that i got my N in late april instead of late july, which allowed me to get a job that involved a lot of driving, which i've done for two summers (so far).
