anti-altitude sickness drug

Alright,
So i'm from Ohio, and riding CoC in like a week and a half. I went last year, and about the 4th day, i got TERRIBLE head/ear aches, they must have been altitude sickness. Well, this year, I'd like to do something about it. Is there drugs that will cover this, anti-drousy?

hmmm... i havent heard of anything for that... possibably pop in about 3 or 4 advil before camp, and ya it is most likely from the high altitude, they say if you are not used to it you should take an easy and not stay on the mountain to long your first day.... but that would be hard because you are paying loads of money for it

Make sure to drink lots of fluids, get a good night sleep, and take asprin. Diamox is an anti altitude sickness drug which you could probably pick up in major cities.Heres a website about the drug:

If you're questioning Diamox, look it up! You need a prescription so you probably can't get it.

I suspect you were actually severely dehydrated anyway - the symptoms are similar. Whistler is less than 9,000 feet, altitude sickness is uncommon unless you're really out of shape and/or hung over.

I get low altitude sickness. At sea level i feel all drunk and shit. i drown in all the extra air. i spend all day every day between 9,000-11,000 feet though

Generally altitude sickness can start around 8000 feet for an inept person. But seeing as we're skier, hopefully physically fit, then that shouldn't be a problem. I've been up around that height before and I felt a lil woozy at first, but just take it slow, don't push yerself, and drink tons. Just take it slow and let yer body adapt.

i'll make sure i drink a LOT of water (however last year I drank a TON...so i don't think that was it)
I'll take like 2 advil in the morning and another later in the day maybe...

anything else? because I have a feeling this won't do it.

ehhh, hate to say it, but you might want to consider doing some long distance running. Figure 3 miles. Try and build your lung capacity.

ec- i was a distance runner in track until liek 3 weeks ago- i got diagnosed with a sprained lumbar (back) and i can't do anything physical till camp....so i'm already out of shape...but cna't do shit about it.

again, it isn't the air, it was a head and eaer ache that were like unbearable

Ibuprofin (spelling?)(aka advil, aleve, ect.) and a lots of water. Works great for me.

Brody, not to mock you or anything but I really don't think whatever you had was altitude sickness. Although the Blackcomb glacier is indeed higher than wherever you are in ohio I find it hard to believe the increase in elevation is too much (I live in Vancouver at sea level and I ski blackcomb all the time no problem).If you got a brutal headache maybe you were just really dehydrated or something?

yeah if you want to improve your lung capacity ECandrew is right. ive been a long distance runner all my life and my lung capacity is .75 of a litre more than everyone else in my grade. its crazy...but i dont know if lung capacity will help with altitude sickness though.

Yeah.... Altitude Sickness is for pussies... i live at sea level, and when i ski on the weekend at 8000 feet i am fine... and even when i went to Colorado and skied at 14000 feet i barely noticed the difference.

Ahh dude, stay away from real 'asprin'. You should drink water like a motha fucka and eat well. If you're going to be flying I would suggest taking a few Bananas or something like that, something nutritous. Stay away from salty foods like peanuts (although your body will need the protien). Fruit is definantely the safest way to go, especially bananas.

DRINK WATER DRINK WATER DRINK WATER :) Throw a Gatorade into that sequence and you're set.

Drink tons of water, like everyone said. Stay away from caffeine and alcohol, as much as that sucks. Also, try and take it easy the first couple of days that you're up there. If it gets bad where you're dizzy, going to puke, and can't focus, head down.
