Hows tahoe looking?

i am gonna be in the area jan 28th - feb 4th. staying at the hampton in truckee. what advice for which areas to hit and what else to do? i am a michigan skier so i am looking forward to not spending time in the park or on the groomers. i want some fun steeps and trees and things i dont get to see in michigan. this is my first time skiing anywhere west of michigan so... gimme the scoop. thanks

Squaw Valley. If the Chutes are open and you can get a ride, try Mt. Rose. Avoid Northstar - way too crowded, and not very steep. Alpine is OK, but often windy.

taHOE is allright now. there is not much snow, but at least things are open.

def hit up Squaw, Alpine, Kirkwood(if you want to drive) Mt. Rose(cutes arn't open yet, only go if they are) Northstar if you want tree runs

and for park, go to northstar, alpine, and boreal.


and pray for more snow....

tahoe is the best place to ski in the world (4 the past 7 years)
this year has bin the worst i've ever seen. if u want to ski actual snow kirkwood if u want to rip park northstar

at this time last year it was worse. Atleast its cold, last year we got rain. I am just sitting back and waiting till march, when tahoe is actually good.

But yeah, tahoe resorts are solid ice right now.

I'd recommend Squaw and, if you're willing to drive for an hour or two, Kirkwood. Both are big, open, and have great in-bounds big mountain terrain. Coming from Michigan, you'll love them.

You might also consider Sugar Bowl. It's not as quite as open as Squaw, Kirkwood, or Alpine Meadows, but it gets a lot of snow and has some killer chutes and tree skiing. It's a fun place to explore. It's also a lot cheaper and less crowded than Squaw and Alpine.

I'd stay away from Northstar (no challenging terrain whatsoever) and Heavenly (crowded, expensive, far, boring).

i second sugar bowl. when northshore used to be closer to where i lived i'd go there - fun steeps/trees, but small enough not to attract the main crowds. kirkwood's got the rest of tahoe beat out though, but a long drive from truckee

You guys are ridiculous northstar isnt packed at all compared to boreal AND they have look out mountain which is like blacks with ungroomed drops and shit then they have the stash witch is tree jibs and all this crazy ass shit
Northstar.
mtrose has some good backcountry but is a really boring resort and wouldnt be worth it cus we dont have as much snow this year

LISTEN to me, all these other guys forgot that you're staying on the south shore. Go to Kirkwood (45 minutes, good coverage, big mtn. lines, etc.), Homewood (stashes galore, uncrowded), and Sierra (trees, good park, good vibes).

I just saw Hampton and ran to a conclusion, what a bonehead. In that case, yeah Sugar Bowl, Squaw, Alpine, etc.

dude it hasnt snowed here since you posted that
best bet if your in truckee is to go to boreal its a lil packed but i think its the funnest park and its cheapest ticket (39) and its close northstar is closer but it costs liek 60 bucks which is redik but they've been making alot of snow since its been like 28 degrees for amonth striaght

yeah man tahoe is hurt'n for snow. Since your in truckee you've got 3 good options. Alpine Squaw and sugarbowl. There will be no fresh snow so if your into cheap tickets hit Alpine.

^yeah, homewood's not all it's cracked up to be, no high speed quads and the like, stick with the big guns such as squaw norfstur and alpine. Unfortunately, you're rolling to Tahoe at quite possibly one of the worst januarys ever recorded, it's getting pretty thin up there, but god speed anywayz.

You picked the wrong season to head down there. Pray that something happens with the weather in the next two weeks or you will be confined to the park and groomers. At least it will probably be sunny and warm.
