Replying to Pontoons quick review
Ok, so took the pontoons out today in a 189, we have them at work at the guides hut here in fernie, and they are unreal!! Figured id give a quick review because its hard to know how they would ski. We had 50cm of snow or so in the last 2 nights so there was good snow to try them in. I was so surprised at how well they rode switch, including landing on them switch, they did not dive on me at all. The tip and tail rocker makes it so easy to land and ride away in either direction! And when you think about it its still a big tail. They are so super soft too, so you can kinda butter around in the pow too. The continuously tapered side cut meant they loved to turn, and was actually super fun in tighter trees with fresh snow. Towards the afternoon when things had been skied a bit more they were still super good. They seem to float on top as opposed to blast through stuff that is more tracked out - definately no issues with floatation! There were a few runs in the resort that had been groomed or totally skied out or whatever and werent exactly ice or hardpack but there was no real pow to turn on, and on these runs they were still quite fun, a little squirelly and chattery obviously, but pretty decent. Again, the tip and tail rocker makes it interesting, there - I thought it would be kinda like skiing on a snowblade on more hardpacked snow, because technically thats all that touches the snow, but it doesnt feel like that at all - although im sure it would on ice and groomers. Im guessing on hardpack and on ice they would be a nightmare, when you actually clip in the first time in the lift line they feel like they are going to be impossible to stop so may be a little scary then - but why would you ski pontoons on a day with now pow? so doesnt matter - just a reference. In the pow, needless to say they were unreal, like unreal!!! Almost a different kind of feeling - like having a surfboard on both feet - so sick! Riding with a super wide stance they just murdered the powder - big open turns were unbelievable. I cant even imagine them sinking, its a wicked ride. So yeh, theres a quick little bit of info, I was so curious about them, so figured I should let everyone else know thats curious how I found them! Feel free to hit me up for more info.
