its funny when people on here (nomensteven), and just people in general try to comvince themselves that global warming is not happening. are you telling me that thousands of scientists and ecologists are wrong and you with whatever useless information you got somewhere are right, give me a break. if global warming isn't happening then why have 9 of the last 10 years been the hottest on record. you say its a natural cycle of the world to warm and cool, ya over millions of years, not decades. the whole natural cycle argument is old and not valid, get with the times. natural cycles on this earth are not noticable in one lifetime, and certainly not in 10 or 15 years, that is ridiculous to even consider. You guys just dont want to believe in global warming cause you know your part of the problem but you dont want to live with that fact. Everybody wants to help the world until they realize they may have to give up their little luxuries, air conditioning, cars, etc. Don't believe it then, keep living your little bullshit materialistic lives and blame something else, go buy your new skis and fuckin' little jackets and shit, they wont be cool in a year anyway. Nobody want to believe it cause they may have to change, and nobody wants to change cause everyone has it too good in this country

Let me guess, you drive a car, or are at least driven in one (judging by that post, you can't be 16), you have air conditioning in your house, and do tons of other things that promote your version of global warming. And why would you talk shit on kids who buy new skis and jackets? Everyone needs new equipment sometime jack.

the same applies for global warming tho. scientists said that global warming only varries the temperature like 1 degree a year. the reason this year sucks is a result of el nino. but your point is valid because regardless of this el nino crap global warming is stil happening.

oh my. has it ever occured to you that liek the earth is all based on patterns and shit. and also think about GREENLAND why is that country called that wehn it's covered in snow? its casue 700 years ago it was green because hte earth was warm. so now the cycles coming back again, its gunna happen and you cant stop it. and yes we as humans are contributing to it but nothing we can do sorry - end rant

i just did a little research because i knew that wasnt true. greenland is called greenland because Erik the Red(the man who elegidly found greenland) thought if he gave it a beautiful name then it would scam his fellow country men from iceland to settle there

still though, she is sort of right.  there has been research to show that the arctic once felt like Florida.  of course this could have been caused by the magnetic reversal of the poles several times throughout the earths existence.

why 700 hundred years? it isn't pertinent to my point.  which is that if the arctic once felt like florida without any elevated levels of greenhouse gas doesn't that sort of give you a signal that the earths climate works more on a radio wave, points of high temperature and then points of low temperature along the y-axis respectively.   greenhouse gases only push the warm point of the y-axis, the positive portion higher along the radio wave. 



and that is also the name of an interpol song.

alright, well sorry about some of that stuff i said but i was pissed. I get pissed living around collingwood with all the new people building their monster weekend homes up here. Those houses are heated in the winter and cooled in the summers, 365 days a year they are using power, and the owners are up maybe 20 weekends a year, thats like 60 days. 300 days a year all these huge houses sit there and consume power, empty. And the materials that go into those places could build 3 or 4 single family homes. it just pisses me off what blue has become, with all the developments and dumb little stores selling expensive trinkets and crap. and i just wanted to say that my house does not have air conditioning, in fact its off the grid and on solar power, but im not trying to say im not part of the problem and im trying to not own a car by the end of 07

then write a letter to your mayor about these people are using up gas to power their heaters and energy to power their air conditioning when the houses are empty. 

at this point, the mayor would be open to a lot of suggestions about conserving resources and keeping pollution down when the town of collingwood is taking a huge beating economically.  and im sure your hatred for the suv driving torontonians is common throughout your town.  if the mayor started cracking down and passing by-laws which required all non-permanent residents not using their cottages more then 3 times a week should be required to turn off their furnace and air conditioning.  from a political point of view this would surely equal votes in the coming elections for the mayor who stood up against this wastefulness and put the arrogant torontonians in their place.  i don't see why not considering pretty much every resident of collingwood is probably playing the global warming blame game and criticizing everything that is a waste of resources.

from an economic point of view,
this just doesn't affect the shops that sell skis or the people that work at these hills.  its the grocery stores and the restraunts and any other business in the area because with less expendable income people will tend to save more which then cuts back on aggregate demand.  this then drives down prices to deal with the recession within your town.  thats why i am not buying any ski equipment right now, im going to wait till the season is over and the shops will be forced to offer outrageous sales in order to generate the revenue so that they can pay for summer inventory stock.  everything has a trickle effect.

oh and to let just to let you know whattheshit, its estimated that the last time the earths magnetic field reversed was 780 000 years ago. Once they begin to reverse it takes about 4000 years until completely reversed. If they were about to switch sometime now, it wouldn't be completed until the year 6007. And they aren't believed to have much affect on earth or its climate.

about this whole it used to be cold in florida and stuff, well it also used to be warm in antarctica. this is millions and millions of years ago, this does not happen over a couple hundred years, not even over a couple thousand. The last ice age ended about 11 000 years ago. To say that a natural warming cycle of the earth would be noticable to us over a period of a couple decades is just simply uninformed. In fact temperature changes in north america wouldn't have been noticable since long before columbus landed here, if they had been recorded that long. it takes tens of thousands of years for the climate to change, this is natural at all what is happening. and yes i know that this winters warm weather is not directly related to global warming, but it is something that people really need to accept as real and stop making up all these excuses and false arguments

Ryno, do it, i dont care. i know that global warming isn't causing 10 degree higher temps, i just think this winter is a good way for people to think about what the consequences might be down the road from now. but whatever, i dont like starting these arguements anyway, cause there's too many different theories and too many unanswered questions and it really doesn't achieve anything. i was pissed when i started this post, whatever

this is the stupidest thread. you defanatly cant be one to talk about global warming your a part of it. i cant either but i dont go aroud blaming others. Global warming has raised temps by an average of 1 degree over the past 100 or so years. Does that make us have no more winters.... no it doesnt. This is an off winter and thats it. Dont ever bring this up again cuase your talkiing about stuff you dont know and tlaking shit to people who dont deserve it.

actually we would just have to travel to further latitudes to ski.  with global warming we are seeing a decrease of ice, but an increase in snowfall in the high latitudes.   but you're just talking out of your ass anyways.

lol i have no idea what your highschool teachers or ISU projects are telling you, but 90% of the stuff all of you have said is wrong. how about we stop talking about this, because all this hot air isn't making the problem any better. give it up, elnino, global warming, mild winter trends, it doesnt matter, there is no snow, end of story. i've spent the last 3 years of university devoting all my time to carbon dioxide cycles and greenhouse effects and the issues that you think lie in your dads SUV and corporate factories only sit at the doorstep of a problem that has been evolving since man first cut down trees to farm (that's right deforestation is the greatest contributer to co2 levels increasing). so go plant a tree, and learn to surf. remember what my 62 year old prof told me, if you diss the environment, the environment will turn around and shoot you. consider yourself shot.
