Skiers ski, editors edit.
These days a few skiers do edit their own segment, like in the special features. other then that, i don't think they really chose their song.
editior's final decision. but they do choose music accordingly, like jp and boyde's section in 1242, very upbeat happy music, apposed to tanner in 1242 with some rap, the music usualy matches the person i think.
It all depends on the song and how much it costs to get the rights to it. A skier could suggest using a song, the editor could agree it's a good idea, but if it doesn't fit in the budget it will never happen. For example, Metallica lets TGR use one or two songs a year for free or very little money because they like the guys at TGR, and the Rolling Stones got about $12 million from Microsoft a few years ago to use Satisfaction in one TV commercial because Mick and Keith wanted to make some easy money and they don't like Microsoft. I know TGR and Microsoft are an unfair comparison, but it depends on who controls the rights and how the song is being used.
