How crowded do you guys think vail will be friday. Its my first time out there, I think ill be there friday and sunday. It looks like snow for friday too. Have holiday people gone home? Also is school back in session? Thanks
lucky bastard. i just got back from my trip to copper and keystone. didn't get to ski vail, but got to see it at night and it wasn't as crowded as i expected (too early prob). can't give any advice, but have fun.
Hey Dude,
The trick to Vail is that there are always areas there that will be crowded, as well as areas that are virtually empty even on busy holiday and vacation weeks. As for the crowds overall; they shouldn't be to bad Friday, be prepared to share the back bowls (particularily Sun Down and Sun Up bowls if it has snowed lately) with the Denver weekend warriors on Saturday and Sunday. I'd say your best bet is to hit Blue Sky Basin in the morning (you wanna hit Lover's leap and Earl's bowl first), then head up the Sun Down Bowl double (slow lift but worth wait), at the top, make a sharp LEFT and stay as high as you can across the traverse, you will go through some trees behind the top of the Game Creek Quad and then be on the less-known side of Sun Down bowl, basically pick a line; good pow here even a week after a storm. Head back up top and get over to the Northwoods Quav via the Wildwood or Mountaintop lifts; hit Prima and Pronto for great bumps and Prima Cornice woods for a sick backcountry-ish experience. Finally, if you have eany energy left, head over to the highline double (below Northwoods) and ski Highline or Roget's, the two most killer bump rund at Vail. Thats my recipe for a good Vail day; hope this helps,
Phil.
hey thats sick thanks a lot. im going out to vail over febuary break. u no any places that will be less crowded? and any epic skiing that i should do even if it is crowded? anything helps cause its my first time to vail.
i went to winter park last year over my school's febuary break, and apparently the kids there only had off on presidents day and had school the rest of the week. i skied three days during the week and never ran into a line longer than 30 seconds.
i don't know if it will be the same for you especially since it's vail, but hopefully you get to do what i did.
yeah i went to steamboat last year and the kids didnt start showing up until like 3 or 4. didnt no if that was just steamboat or the whole state. That would be sick if they had school
just go where everbody is not going and it will be great. people go to vail and fallo the packs of people and complane how crowded it is. when its really not. take the path less travled!
If it's your first time at Vail and it's a Friday don't worry about getting in enough skiing, you'll be wooped by the end of the day if you get up early. The other ideas on this thread are great, but I'd suggest gettin a map, and going up Golden Horn to Chair 11 (Northwoods I think) to start- it will get you to the upper mountain quickly. Head out to Blue Sky just so you can see the entire area and then figure out what you like and ski it. Everyone talks crap about Vail, but it's a great ski area, and the Beav is just as good without any crowds, so I'd go there on Sunday, if you can.
