People whose bodies destroy watches

so this year for christmas, i purchased a quite priced tag heuer mechanical watch for my boyfriend.
he was very unappreciative when he opened this gift claiming: "my body kills watches" which at first i thought was just him being a habitual liar. i interrogated him about this for a while, his dad he said, has the same problem. he said the only watches that ever worked for him were quartz and continued explaing how elite quartz is to mechanical. i explained the reason i got a mechanical watch was because they are considered by most to be more luxurious. and he's a guy who unfortunately takes pride in the fact that his things cost rediculous amounts of money. he told me, he doesn't know the "scientific" term for this condition but it's an energy in his body that kills all watches. he claimed that sticking a piece of felt on the back panel of the timepiece would solve this problem. causing me to wonder... this energy can pass through the human body, glass, and silver... but a piece of felt will stop it? i asked around and found a lot of people have this problem, some in my own family. a few people said they thought it was a magnetism thing. i've tried to find out more but have had no luck...
can anyone enlighten me? or is my boyfriend a witch that needs to be hanged?

that doesn't make any sense to me. Any electrical or whatever kind of field would effect a quartz watch way more than a mechanical watch since quart watches use electricity.
Compared to electronic movements, mechanical watches keep very poor time, often with errors of seconds per day. They are frequently sensitive to position and temperature, they are costly to produce, they require regular maintenance and adjustment, and they are more prone to failure. For this reason, inexpensive and moderately priced timepieces with electronic movements now provide most users with superbly accurate timekeeping and have almost entirely supplanted older watch designs with mechanical movements.
Thats from wikipedia. Could explain why they think they're "killing" watches.

i could be wrong but here is my explanation, my science teacher had this problem, its coz everyone's body excretes diffrente stuff, our sweat isnt the same acidity and all that bullshit as other so some people have weird sweating/acidity problems that cause the bateries to discharge in their body mad fast 'killing' them if you want. your boyfriend is just a freak

my thoughts exactly, which is why i immediatley thought he was simply lying. i assume he in the past had: A.) battery powered watches that died and he wasn't smart enough to change the battery. or B.) a mechanical watch he didn't know how to maintain, windup, and what have you...

put weights on his ankles and toss him in the water to see if he'll sink...then you'll know if hes a witch or not

Or gravy!
Yeah.. it sounds like he's lying, doesn't know how to change a watch battery, or who even knows.. like someone said.. only mythbusters will have the answer to this one.

ive never heard of this before, but my guess is with this guy. its most likely not an enegry field, and more that his sweat is just potent, and it would fuck up the mechanicals. that would also explain the sweat

basically he is an asshole. he should have said thank you no matter his energy problem shit. i hate it when people dont appreciate their gifts. he could have easily been like, "thank you so much this is a dope watch, unfortunately i have this wierd problem where my watches always break, and id hate to have this happen to such a nice watch, so im going to take it back."

This problem is legit. Its not just some excuse he made up. My former boss had the same problem where he couldn't wear watches without them just stopping. I never got the chance to ask him what caused it. I wish I had.

haha nsg.
i love how the dad was like yes, only a quartz movement is immune to my electro watch fucking up energy... obviously i passed that gene to my son. what are they x men? buy your ungratefull fuck a kinetic watch, unless his superhuman subsonic internal vibrations will explode it.
