i completely see what you're trying to say.
but for me, the problem isnt cold cut reality. I agree with you, there should be no sugar coating whatsoever. but i also belive that if there is no sugar coating, i.e. you can watch the death of a dictator, i think that it should disturb people, rather than entertain people.
the only thing you should be happy about is that he's dead and that's that. you shouldnt be thinking up of worse ways he could die. or that you want to watch him die over and over. the information (aka the video) should be AVAILABLE to you, but gaining actually PLEASURE from watching it disgusts me. for example many ppl in here are saying they want to see it replayed over and over. my question is why? why would watching a man die make you want to watch it again and again. whoever the hell he is, this isn't NHL hockey you're watching here. this is a man's life ending, literally. how can the death of another person give you pleasure? Suddenly, it's ok to murder someone because of revenge? and let's face it...this is just a blown up version of revenge.
death should never provide you with a feeling of pleasure. someone is killing them, just because it's not you, it doesn't make it ok. how can you morally accept this so easily. watching someone die. it's one thing to be supportive of the fact that he's put to death. it's one thing to support his death. but it's another to watch a video and while you're watching this man die, you don't feel a tad bit of a turn in your stomach. how could you watch someone die and not feel disturbed. i think people should be creeped out by the video, not entertained, not pleased, not smiling. they should have dark, serious faces while they stare at the screen. there should be no grin, just blankness, darkness...because thats what this all is. dark.
if someone were to murder someone close to you, would you turn around and murder them yourself? no. But if they went into trial, were found guilty, would u want them to get the death penatly? yep. you sure would. so what makes capital punishment/execution ok? because it isn't directly you killing them? so ok ok ok let me just understand this. you don't want to actually do your own dirty work and kill people, but it's ok if your gov't (which is also comprised of people, men, who have to put ppl down)does it for you? i realize saddam's 'scale' of murder isn't the same as say, someone who breaks into your house and kills your mother. But saying it's ok for someone to take away another person's life is like saying revenge is ok. punishment is one thing, revenge...god damn. that's just foolish.
but anyways. like i said. my only problem with the ppl who keep saying shit like "i cant wait to watch him die!" is exactly that. 'i cant wait to watch a man die.' why the fuck would u want to be watching it. just know about it. or watch it once and while you watch it, let the dark images of all the bad things that have happened for it to come to this moment, and realize the world you live in. dont smile. it's not a smiling matter. he's gone. he sure is. but this is not a moment of light, this is a moment that reflects the darkest side of humanity. a man like saddam existed, thats not good. he did so many bad things that everyone around the globe was happy to see him take his last breath. now that's one hated man...but should we really be happy? why should we be happy to watch it. we should be happy a dictator and bad man will no longer be capable of what he once did. that is the only thing we should be happy about. the rest should be a cold feeling.
