As a new year creeps up upon us again, its time to dwell on the days of the past and the days that will come. A new year is here and another year that our industry has survived. Now only nine years old (pending on how you see it), our sport has progressed into a cash money machine in very little time. In a sport that has fallen on marketing gimmicks and playing out cliches, most skiers take for granted the equipment they ride and the terrain they ski. And as this machine keeps plowing away for years to come we tend to forget people who paved the way for our sport.

Now what is the point of this rant and rave? Its for you to be thankful for the forefathers of our sport. Many skiers today wouldn't know who helped develop our sport. Guys like, Shane Aderson, Shane Szocs, Greg Tuffelmire, Kris Ostness, Rex Thomas, Evan Raps, JF Cusson, Micah Black, Shannon Schad, Vincent Dorian, Paul Yih, Shane McConkey, JP Aucliar, and many more. So I would like for you guys to pick one forfather (that means pre 2001) and write out his contribution to the sport...that way NS members can have info on their sport.

Skogan Sprang Skiing career:(1997-?)

Skogan is a skier from Denmark and rode for Line skis from 1997-2005. He was one of the few skiers at the time to get inverted in the park and made the rodeo a rather famous trick. His signature trick back then was the skodeo which was a rodeo 5. Mr. Sprang is also responsible for producing one of the first fat twin tips (think Morrsion had one in 1998). In I think 2000, he was invited for a trip to Alaska, however, Line did not have a ski big enough for Alaska. Therefore, with Francois (line ski engineer) he developed the Line Mothership.

In addition to the many pro skis he developed he was also the first to have a rail picture as the cover of a magazine. It was in 2000 that Freeze put out a magazine with Skogan on the cover grinding a rail. As for a pro skier, his style is remembered as smooth and buttery. Although not the most technical skier in the park, he helped paved the way for our sport and is a living legend.

Skogan is still skiing today and is focusing mainly on freeriding (big mtn). He now rides for Volkl and can be found in TGR videos from time to time.

No, Skogen is from Tahoe. Where did you get this bio from? And in your first post, everyone you posted has played a big part in skiing except Paul Yih. Who the fuck is he, and how did he progress skiing?

youre just mad cause of what he wants to say. he progressed the sport regardless. if glen plake was a total dickhead (hes not) and still skied like he did, he would have changed the face of freeskiing, REGARDLESS of what he was like.

You know what I totally giveup on NS. Try to instill some positive thought into an already depleted and worthless forum and what do I get pointless posts from fools who couldn't read if their life depended on it. Clearly I said the "and more" which would imply the list is not complete you idiots. By all means add to the list and explain your reasoning! Fuck its not that hard...

And I beg to differ on Evan Raps he help create the Scratch series and was one of the orginal members of Rossi's freestyle team.
