K2 Seths vs. Prophet 100's

Having killed my trusty yet ancient X-Screams this weekend, I'm looking to get new skis. I ski about 75% big mountain (deep powder, chutes, trees, etc.) and maybe 25% park (jumps and pipe but no rails) at Alyeska with an occasional backcountry romp. Of course, in the spring, those percentages may be reversed. I have a pair of old Line Skogens that are sufficient for the park but suck out of it. I'm 6'1" 190 lbs. and ski fairly aggressively but am by no means the best skier on the mountain.

I'm looking for a ski that performs well in the aforementioned conditions. I'd also like a ski that is tough as shit and won't bust if I find myself surfing rock.

So I've more or less narrowed my search down to the K2 Seths (189cm) and Line's Prophet 100s (186cm). I'd also consider Head's Mojo 105 if they weren't $200 more expensive.

Thoughts?

(Also, is it possible to buy wide-brakes for my old-school bindings so that I don't have to shell out an extra $200?)

As far as brakes go, just bend them. Its the easiest and the difference between a wide brake and a bended normal one is minimal, both will stop your ski from rocketing away and killing someone.

As far as skis go, I would go with the Seth over the Prophet. They may weigh more, but swing weight with such a wide ski is kinda retarded. You wont be doing switch 10's with them anyways, so it doesnt matter. K2's are notably better with variable conditions - I could ride my Maden's on almost anything and still have a smile at the bottom. Cant say much about the prophet, but I know its a lot softer, and probably a bit more chattery. I'd go with K2 if I were you (and maybe even consider Maden's/AK Enemies, its not that much more ski and a whole lot more fun).

Did you consider Dynastar Big Troubles? I skied em back to back with the Seths and BT was hands down more fun to ski on (for me). 186 length is available. A bit narrower, but if you are thinking about kickers and the park, the BT is fun. As for Prophets - haven't used them, but they have been getting great reviews and I met one dude on the hill who loved his.

whaaat??! dude seths are a dope ski... but you cant talk shit about the 100 if you havent been on them yet. the 100 is the shit on all types of terrain/conditions and it aint that bad on the park..

First off, thanks to those who have responded.

Has anybody actually skied the Prophet 100s?

The first person mentioned it being a lot softer than the Seths. Is that true? Because the Seths seem kinda soft already.

im about the same size as you and im on the 179 ak enemy, its a bowl of fun, i chose the 179 instead of 189 so i can throw it around and have more fun on it. deffinately a fun ski.

The AK Enemies look like fun skis, but I'll be skiing Tahoe (Kirkwood mainly) next year and they seem a little to soft and powder-oriented for most Tahoe conditions. As for the 179s, I'm sure they'd be better in the park but I grew up skiing in the early 1990's when 205 bump skis were the norm. Stupid or not, my inclination is toward longer skis.

Anybody who has skied both the Seths and the Prophet 100s wanna chime in?

Any comments on the durability or either ski? I seem to ski over rocks a lot.

 I skiied the 186 Prophet 100s on Christmas Eve and the day before.

 I really liked the ski. They rip on groomers, are ok switch, and make pow a breeze. They are definitly a little stiffer than the Seths, because of the titanium in them. I took them into tight trees repeatedly, and the length was very managable for me (I am 200 lbs, 5' 7"). They are super fun to drop cliffs on as well. 

 While the Prophet was very fun all around, I would not enjoy the prospect of jumping on them. They do have a bit of swing weight as a fat ski, and did not have the quickness that is very helpful in a park ski. The recommened mounting would be hell to ski switch on.

 The Seth seems more toward the jib stick end, but if you are willing to learn to spin slow, the Prophet will keep you more than happy while you bring down the mountain.

They were initially on my list (Salomon has been a trusty ski-maker and I dig the simple graphics of the gun), but I've spoken with a couple of people who claimed that they were (a) too soft and (b) deteriorated quickly. The latter may be bullshit, but it's all that I have to go on.

Guddgulf- thanks for the info. I'm not sure about the park stuff. I'd like to be able to go switch and do 5s and 7s off medium-sized jumps.

You are most welcome. I think if you are going to put that emphasis on park, I would step down to a 90mm waist. My Guns are 90mm, and I find that I can spin fine on them, while they work well in pow too.

I have this dillema too. I want a good park ski, and a good big mountain ski, but you can't have them together.

I'm 90% sold on the Prophets. If my credit card and I come into close proximity with the ski shop, it's a done deal.
