Burton skis

i know theres a thread of this already but it died out a while ago. i'm hearin more and more rumors that burton will indeed have a ski out next year or by the latest two seasons from now. i'm totally against it and don't want this to happen. the only good i see coming otu of it is more snowboarders converting. has anyone heard anything, if so are you for or against it?

i will never even consider buying burton skis. fuck burton, anyone remember when they bought out a ton of add space in either freeze or freeskier (i dont remember) and just put ads in trashing on skiers saying that they should just snowboard instead?

K2, Salomon, and Rossignol, as well as all their undercompanies such as Line, Karhu, Volkl, Marker, Look, Lange, and Dyanstar are all part of massive international corperations. I sincerely doubt that the highest people in these companies care about skiing as we know it. The three big companies I previously mentioned all have snowboarding companies associated with them.

At this point, if you want to support the individual and independant company, you have to pay more and deal with supply problems, strict warrenties, and difficult customer support. While I am all for the indie companies, it is difficult to get out from under the shadow of the big companies when purchasing gear.

i love how close minded matman is, i know its been said but cmon now, head and saloman both make boards along with almost all other companies, there is really no argument. doesnt matter because indirectly you are going to support snowboarding and its pretty much the same for boarders.

RED, Anon, and Burton in general are, since their introductions to the skiing market, the worst thing to happen to skiing since straight skis, spandex, one pieces, and racing.

Get the fuck out. And leave your skis at home. No one wants them.

snowboarding companies are supporting skiers because skiing has come a long way in the past couple years.
we have moved far from the snowboard hating retards that thought nosepresses were nearly impossible in a practical sense, to airblaster wearing, anon repping retards.

all i am saying is that skiing has progressed to a point that it is marketable. its "cool" now.

no company that is making money (snowboarding companies) would invest in a company that needs as much work as skiing needed 3 years ago.

we have made big strides...

Alright, burton making skis would not be a bad thing- it would just be retarded. Burton would have to bite their tounge and slap themselves in the face before they stated making skis. Burton making skis would prettymuch unofficially legitimize skiing in the snowboard community. And this comming from a company that has been anti-ski from the start(not that that was a bad thing when jake started burton- the scene was getting stale) and that will not sell its premier product lines to stores that sell skis. Burton has made a point that they are strictly about snowboarding- even though they own a surfboard manufacturing company there is no line of burton surfboards. Burton does not support skiers (aside from RED and Anon and all the money they pay for ads in ski magazines). You people should remember this before you roll through the park in your shaun white suit

I think it would be good. Like, Burton is huge- basically an empire. If they made skis, that would draw sooo much attention to skiing. Im all for it. If the skis look nice, ill definately be riding a pair.

It could be good or bad. Burton has the money and influence to make skiing as big as snowboarding, but I still think their just trying to make money and don't give a shit about our sport. I personally won't buy skis from a company who bashed the sport, then changed their minds once they saw that they could make money off of it.

but yeah, burton making skis would be awsome. i think it would also help pipe skiing into the olympics, cause they have their sponsored snowboarders at the big O and wouldnt want their ski team to feel left out, so it would make a greater chance of olympic pipe skiing becoming a reality. oh and that expanding the business stuff too, i like that.

except for the whole....Salomon invented the twin tip thing....and the whole Head is one of the Oldest ski companies in the world.


Not to mention salomon/Head didn't bash snowboarding to sell skis. I don't care if it is a ploy or not, its wrong. This is what it is : " Lets pretend to make fun off people so that we can make fun off of their humiliation." Does that sound right to you.

Its not about being core....its not about idie.....its about skiing supporting skiing. I am looking at Burton...as a company, who publicly bashed skiing. THEY BASHED YOUR SPORT PUBLICLY. I don't care if it was a ploy....it was wrong. I don't bash snowboarding, and i don't recall any skiing company ( yes i know conglomerates, undercompanies....most snowboarding companies are closely related to ski companies) taking out in add in Snowboard magazine that anybody who rides a snowboard is a cumguzzler. Last time i check the Burton owned Burton....and Armada owned Armada, and 4FRNT owned 4 FRNT. I think a company schould be responsible for what it does, and that we schould not soo hastily forget what has happend in the past.

skiing and snowboarding are so tightly woven, not matter how hard we try to draw a line in the snow, you just can't. One wouldn't exist without the other, and the other would've died if it weren't for the one. Life imitates art imitates life. It's sliding down a hill, lets get over ourselves. If they were good I'd ski them, I like the way a snowboard carves a lot better than a ski anyway, one more head thinking outside the box never hurt anyone IMO.

Nope. They made twin-tips because they believed they could turn a profit on them and make a buck.

And I highly doubt that Freeskier magazine is complaining about all the revenue that was given to them by Burton for the ads.

It was a win-win move. Burton got publicity and people talked about them. Freeskier got money from the advertisements. The only people hurt are the people who can't take things with a grain of salt and see it for what it really is.


Now you can sit there and believe that the ski-companies are really just trying to make skiing better for the sake of it, or you can realize that all companies, even the independents like Armada, ect. are in business to make money.

Anon and Analog are seperate entities owned by Burton.

Ronin is just a line of clothing that is under the Burton name. They have Burton, Ronin and AK outerwear. Buying 'Ronin' means buying Burton. It's like the PE and Fuji are model from K2, not seperate companies. It is funny to hear skiers say how bad Burton clothes are and how cool Ronin is cause Ronin IS Burton clothes.

Personally I have an AK outfit that has worked fantastically the 3 days I have been riding in the rain. Inside the jacket & pants has stayed dry. Stop driver your SUVs!

i agree with whoever said that they make good outerwear. iu have mad burton shit. and two of my friends have EVERYTHING burton, so i know a lot about the company and the tecnology. they would do well making skis.... but i dont think they will. Jake Burton was the founder of snowboarding. i dont think he would betray the sport.

nike is bad for anything it does because it's a massive corperation and makes life harder for every company that is smaller than it. and normally I would think it cool if burton made skis, although in the last thread I think it was pointed out that they would bash skiing in their ads and shit, so if they then turned around and made skis that'd be fucked up.

itll take profit away from our core companies. ski companys will lose out. burton has a wider distribution than armada or liberty. stores will have the burton skis more than they will have the armada skis. less money for the ski industry. fuck the idea of burton skis.
