Burton skis

i know theres a thread of this already but it died out a while ago. i'm hearin more and more rumors that burton will indeed have a ski out next year or by the latest two seasons from now. i'm totally against it and don't want this to happen. the only good i see coming otu of it is more snowboarders converting. has anyone heard anything, if so are you for or against it?

i just think its total bull. its all about money for burton. they ragged on skiers when they didn't think they could make any money out of them. but now they think they can dominate the market they stop makin fun of skiers. i dont doubt they try to sponsor a couple of skiers this year

It could be a good or bad thing. Burton is a huge company and can throw alot of money around for helping out skiing and getting more coverage for it. Although I guess they said some bad things about it wich is pretty stupid.

READ MY POST ON THE PAGE B4 IF UR CONFUSED. ask skaters and they will tell u why it's bad for any sport. and so what if burton wants to make money? have u guys seen "the stash" at northstar? if that's what's gonna come outta burton's mad cash, then im all for it. that pre drilled thing is a sick idea, i cant believe line took that away. if it turns into that, we can have a free flex like race bindings, because the binding will be attached at one pivotal point on the ski. personally, i ride burton snowboard binders and boots, and i think burton is worthy, plus, i totally think that the guy who said burton is changing its mind is half right, this will even the field. i hate this im better than u because i board bullshit, i ski and board, and u know what? as long as i stay in the park on both im happy. people say skiing is boring, but so is boarding if u only go up and down a hill. VIVA LA FREESTYLE!

I highly doubt this is true. If Burtin did make skis under the Burton name it would way damage there cred. I could see them making them and putting some other brand name on them just for the money.

You are exactly right...this is why we need Burton to come into the ski industry. Ultimately, the winner will be the consumer with lower prices/higher quality products etc.

I'm for it man! I'm a boarder, and I have lots of respect for skiers. Your sport is much harder! Basically, Jake Burton realized how dope skiing is and decided to give some skis a try. They have some of the best boards on the market, they know their shit. So I think they'll make some sick skis, too. And the kids who buy Burton skis are the ones who look up to skiers and wanna be like them. Cause skiing is uber sick.

Yeah thats true for Salomon, Dynastar, and Rossi. They all started as skiing companies. Then snowboards have made a big impact on the sports industries, and now freeskiing's gonna be massive.

burton already made skis...a split snowboard called the s-series, obviously they do not hate skiers. they sponsor them in theyre branch companies (i.e. anon, red) i love the guy saying "jeff burton" hates skiing, wow dont talk if you dont have any clue what youre talking about. his name is jake and he is about 50% of the reason that you dont wear a spandex suit and race downhill. riders dont care what you do(besides fags,dirtbags,gapers etc...), i like the guy who said we all need to take a more 3 boarded view, its not about what you slide on its about the fact that you enjoy riding on snow with whatever you chose to.

BURTON will never do skis. They're not anti-skiing. they said that. Main Team manager said that if BURTOn wil start making skis hlf of their working crew would leave the job (i don'y belive it either). That's what I heared but maby I am wrong :/

Yeah, that is what Burton did. There used to be a feud between skiing and snowboarding. Skiers hated boarders, and boarders hated skiers. Burton used the hate as a marketing ploy.

Logically, do you think that if a company hated a sport, that they would GIVE money to the sport by purchasing ad space in the magazine????

i think its a bad idea they mite make a range of well deelish skis but fink about it Burton would completely own the snow market. They own a hole range of companies such as anon and red they do boards and clothing ranges and im shure they own lots of over companies buy i think its bad for one companies to have such a huge grip on the market just seriously think about how much of the market Burton owns. making it allot harder for smaller companies to start up. but thats just my thoughts but u guys will prob fink differently

Not really.

The distribution of power in the snow-sports industry is already very slim. Most of the companies are owned by a large corporation, which often owns other ski companies as well.

Does anyone have that chart from Freeskier last year scanned in on their PC?

Alright, I have been skiing for 20 years and boarding for 18. Let's clear some things up...
1) JAKE Burton, not Jeff Burton
2) Skiers, ski areas, and the snow sports industry as a whole used to hate snowboarders. We weren't allowed at most resorts. Burton and other OG board companies have had a sort of "right" to bag on skiing a little. Snowboards have gone through a lot in 30 years. If you want to get picky, K2 (by owning Ride) ripped on Burton with an ad that said, "You know what the hardest part of riding a Burton board is? Telling your parents your gay."
Honestly, when skiers started going in the park, boarders saw all the tourists snowplowing ower everything. Some boarders still think skis cause railroad ruts on takeoffs. There is ignorance on both sides.
3) IF Burton were to make skis I highly doubt it would be under the Burton name. Burton skis would ruin thier snowboard cred. I could see a new brand though.
4) IF Burton makes skis, they would bring some much needed tech to skiing and twin tips. Burton has pioneered making boards lighter AND stronger. Right now ski companies seem to want to make twins heavy. The theory being that heavy is strong. I would love to see a Custom X or even Vapor ski.
5) Burton only makes thier high end boards in Vermont. Everything else is made out of the country by other manufacturers (I think Karhu and Elan, but am not positive).

The dollars, technology and added competition skis made by Burton would bring are only good for the industry as a whole. I think it would be very hard for Burton to pull it off though.

that's true, but if they do start making skis, it'll only boost our north american economy, because their skis are made here, not overseas. that's a real shame tho, they should only ADD to that ski team.

whoever said jeff burton should just leave this thread. you're beyond clueless.

Burton have the promotional power to out-expose even Salomon, who put all their money into advertising (Which is why the skis are crap). They have the technology to produce skis to a very high standard which could force other companies to up their game quality wise.

But.... It could go the other way. Burton may start a promotions war upping the cost of media exposure, therefore making production costs of skis suffer.

really? Cause last time i checked burton was owned by snowboarders. Although anon, and red has skiers on their team, they are still owned my snowboarders. Snowboarders, that i might add, a few years ago said skiing was soo stupid. Now they are with us all of a sudden cause its getting popular....you know what fuck that.

Like i said, i want to buy skis from a company that makes skis. Just like snowboarders want to by a snowboard from a company that just makes snowboards. I will support Armada, Line ( I own a pair of Ar5s, and Prophets) way before i buy their shit. I think we schould support our companies WAY before we support a snowboard company.

jeff burton is a hard ass....but seriously, all of you guys who are adament that burton won't make skis and are only saying that one statement, please go elsewhere. if you haven't noticed there are a lot of good opinions on here about whether its a good or bad thing. personally i don't like the idea because i think burton will do something detrimental to the ski systems like they have with their 3 hole systems in the snowboard and binding. but i can really see how it might just be a good thing. so if you don't have anything good to say then please just don't bother to add anything

oh i hope they make a kick ass ski binding down the road. they are one company that might be able to get that right. line certainly didnt. 4frnt's binding is alright but just an old race binding with their logo on it and more plastic and less metal. px10/12s all suck and the fks are knee busters. i guess salomons are decent but i would like to see a new binding that actually achieves what the reactor was supposed to achieve.

They seem to make snowboards, Tennis Rackets and all sorts of other shit.

And they are very profitable corporations as well...

Face it, Burton skis would not be a bad thing.

The whole bashing skiing thing was Marketing. Just that. Same as Libtech's skis. Marketing.

forum is owned by program which runs jeenyus, foursquare, specialblend, and forum.
forum is still better, forum grudge is the best board on the market in my mind for my riding style right now, but burton does use aerospace materials (aluminum honeycomb core = seexxxx), and so does forum (MAC3 + Grudge = hot steamy sexxxxx) so i see how it could be possible that burton owns em.

Ok i thought this forum was dragging on way too long and pointlessly but it just got soo much sicker.. so to organize im gonna try and write down the pros and cons of if burton joined that ppl mentioned. I proboly missed about half of them, so just post...

If Burton released ski's;

Pros;
- better ski tech (lighter+stronger, bindings)
-positive competative marketing (lower prices/ better products)
-more freeskiers (maybe better boarder skier respect?)
-more coverage for skiing (uhh)

Cons;
- Lower Buton cred (though someone said they'll probolby come out with a new brand)
- Money going towards non-true ski companies (betratying true ski comapnies)
-more freeskiers converted from boarders (some peple said they dont want that)
-if the competative marketing money goes towards promoting stuff rather than on the actual quality of the products themselves
- If you dont't want them to do whatever they did with their board bindings


AND.. there's proboly quite a bit of stuff i forgot to put. Plz mention them

Pretty much i hope people read both sides of the argument and aren't super biassed. So that it'll give people like mee a very good idea on why we should think it would be good or bad.
