Instructed lessons in freeskiing stop it being 'free' and turn it into competetive freestyle like moguls or aerials. But thats just me.

For some kids out there its a way to come together and hang with their friends... especially in mountain towns. Almost all mtn towns have ski clubs that all go out together. It's WAY better to for the kids, cause they learn how to respect other park people and not be an ass... Also it teaches them how to actually jump instead of huckin their meat and ended up DEAD

well look at all the upand comming riders in our sport right now, they almost all went to a ski academy and got taught to do things. Even if the coach could never do it himself chances are he can understand how it is done, same logic that most nfl coachs never were players but know how do the things they teach. If i had the money i would sure as hell go to an academy or take a park lesson, for me its just riding with friends and when one learns somehting new you just share how to do it.

when your first starting i agree, tips help. But once you can do rails and kinks and 3s, all thats left is trying stuff, and thats the only way to learn. Actually, i guess your coaches could watch you try stuff and tell you what your doing wrong. If it wasnt too expensive yeah i would do a park lesson

waste of money probably for me, the reason i go skiing is to chill with friends and just hang out. We aren't that competitive and when we are we build off each other and stuff. I already know im not gonna be pro so there really isnt any point to spend a bunch of money for me to get better.

well people can point out the basics of each tricks so you can understand what you need to do if you dont wanna getfucked up.
For some kids out there, grabing their skis while doing spins is hard. Lessons helps a lot for younger dudes.

You couldn't be more wrong. It's not forcing them to do anything... not even compete. Do you think going to a Ski camp is taking the "free" out of "freeskiing". It just makes it so kids can learn stuff in a fun and safe environment. Rather than sitting up top of a park with 100 other kids, and being really intimidated, and having no clue how to do something, they can just be taught the correct way, and have fun. I've taught at a few camps, and it's a blast. Kid's love that shit, and the same ones come back year after year, and keep slaying. It's sick.

its good to get the basic pointers! everyone has good of learning them from someone else. You know, the leaning forward on rails tip, how to place your skis when skiing switch, the fact that you should learn to look over your unat spinning should before the other, all those thing thats so got damn basic.. after that its just art, do your own thing

Big Mountain Freestyle Team. I love the built in sense of community, and the progression that is shared. Having a coach to critique and encourage is really helpful, and doing video review makes seeing what you are doing much easier.

yeah, a freestyle club wit coach is sick, it pushes u to get better so u stand out from everyone else, and it's so friendly that nobody cares how good u are, it's just about the ride.

Hey fuck you. Most of us don't have rich parents so we can take lessons on how to jump so we have to learn everything on our own. "Huckin' our meat" is how we learn our shit so lay off and go drown yourself in your water ramp pool.

I was trying blind side switch ups and not being able to get them, after about 15 tries this kid comes over and gives me some pointers, i got it the next attempt. As long as the lesson allows you to work on what you want and not what they tell you then its totally chill and positive in my mind. It's when they start telling you what to do that it takes away

i know a lot of kids who did and 2 of them were pretty bad, but by the end of the year they were a lot better, more stylish and more confident trying new things. the kid who could barely do a 180 was doin switch fives at the end of the season.

I think it's really based on personal opinion. I'm not too great at park, but I don't think I need a park instructor to tell me how to do boxes and rails. Just practice your balance on small stuff at home. For example: Rail road ties, tires, crates, tables, fridges, whatever's available to you. and try the stuff you want to try at home and then step it up bigger and bigger. and then once you've got a trick down, then try more at home and try it again. It sounds lame, but start small, it helps.

i hate to break it too you, but anyone who can afford to ski as much as we do, is pretty wealthy

and u dont need to be rich. freestyle clubs are relatively cheap and come with coaching. private lessons are for rich kids, not the one timer, the CONTINUOUS ones.
