I have a Powerbook G4 and absolutely LOVE it. My cousin just got a Macbook, and I like the Powerbooks construction better, but his is defiantely better in every way.
or you could be practical and get a much more functional pc for way less. just a thought. the only advantage macs have is their sleek design. there's reason they made them run windows now... cuz mac operating systems just aren't useful for the vast majority of people. there's a reason like 99% of all business use windows on pcs.
all i want it for is fcp, avids way to confusing for me and i have a copy of fcp 5.0 i was given from a friend so kind of a waste .ie i want a mac but yea if i got a legit setup with like premiere id be happy
It is true that more businesses use pc's, but that has less to do with their functionality and more to do with Bill Gates' business model 15 years ago. For personal computing, Macs are superior in more ways than design. They run better and last longer. Viruses are rarely a problem. The interface of Mac OS is much more intuitive than any version of Windows (that includes Vista.) If you're doing high-end number crunching or complex networking, then pc's are the way to go. Otherwise, Macs are better suited for all personal computing needs. Basically, Macs are the Hondas of the car world, and pc's are they Chevys.
P.S. This is all coming from someone that has to use a pc every day.
so ur saying chevy's are a safer car huh? ha just playing but damn i need an apple that has enough ram to support fcp or any dece computer for editing suggestions?
that is a legit arguement except for calling macs hondas when a mac cost literally twice as much as a comprable pc. as for viruses, they really aren't a big deal the only difference with pcs is that you need to invest in a decent anti-virus program but most comps come with really good ones these days anyway. And which one is more intuitive is kinda arbitrary, generally if someone has no clue how to operate a computer a mac or pc will confuse them. and neither are very hard to figure out how to use for someone in our generation who has grown up around technology. I'm not saying macs are bad, just expensive so if you are on a tight budget they are not a sensible option. If I was loaded I'd probably have one cuz they do have some features that are fun to play around with and they do come more functional out of the box.
They are more expensive (part of my reason for calling them Hondas), but a Mac will outlast a pc nine times out of 10, so you recoup your loss when you have to go buy a new computer. I agree that "intuitive" is a relative term, but I've never talked to anyone who said they had a software issue with their mac that they couldn't figure out themselves.
I've used pc's all my life. I'm still pissed that my college required me to get one.
WRONG! i have run a mac, and i have lots of friends with macs....
get a PC, especially if you plan on using the computer at all for games. Plus, it'll be way cheaper. And as for those who say that macs last longer, this is not true in my experience. I know way more people who have had macs crash on them in the last few months at uni than PCs (but i know more people who have PCs than macs).
i am both a pc and a mac user, but personally i would take a mac laptop... though you can get the same pc setup for much cheaper, the thing about macs that everyone forgets is they are always in demand for some weird reason. You can buy a mac one year and if you are smart about it, keep the box, receipts, packaging and take good care of it, you can resell it in a year and make 60-70% of the money back. My friend sold her 2.5 year old powerbook for 1,000 bucks, i sold mine for 1550 after using it for a year. No one wants to buy some old used compaq laptop with a bunch of viruses on it.
the whole idea of getting a PC over a laptop isn't a bad one.. if you honestly don't see yourself utilizing the mobility thing.. you can get a comp that's 2x as good for 1/2 the cost... but if mobility is a deal.. I got an ACER and love it... sorry to jump off the mac rules bandwagon there...
thats bull shit. if you are worried about space then buy a fucking external hard drive. macs are so much better than pcs that its not even funny. ive been a mac user my entire life and im very glad for that. our school uses pcs and they are just worthless pieces of shit. macs are just better in general. people complain about how there are less programs made for macs. this was true a little while ago. now all of the big programs are made for macs also. and the ones that arent, mac normally has their own version which is also normally far more superior to the pc versions.
Well, if you want pc advice go for a business model Dell, but spend the extra $300 on the complete care package. I had to get one for school, and it has performed admirably considering it's had the stress of having it be a workstation for a design student. The Complete Care is wonderful. Any hardware issue you have for 3 years is covered. Next day, in home replacement of any part no matter how it was damaged (I've got a new mother board because I spilled milk on my computer.) I could throw my laptop out my car window, and they would fix everything the next day.
you get what you pay for...
feel free to buy a pc but its just going to get viruses and break because its a shitty computer.
if you want a nice solid machine thats going to last you a long time and not get messed up then get a mac.
ummm are you seriously grouping together all PCs and claiming that they are all inferior to macs. 2 grand will get you a way better more powerful pc than mac. as for viruses, you dont get them if you aren't an idiot!
I have a hp dv1000 series laptop, dont do any editing with it but I use it for average college student junk and it's awesome. And for 1 grand it was a way better deal than any of the macs I looked at. If you can get one with a widescreen they are way better, I cant stand using comps with normal screens now.
god DAMNIT! stop making up lies about macs being twice as expensive as all pc's, because that is FALSEEEEEEEEE. go actually compare prices before you look at a mac and call it expensive, when in reality it is just infinitly better than a pc.
and lets get real. if you're over the age of 16, there really is no reason against getting a mac because if you still play massive amounts of computer games you need to fuckin grown up.
the 13 inch macbooks are a good deal, but apple sucks and charges a shitload more to get a bigger screen, and a 13 inch screen doesn't really cut the mustard all the time unless you want somethin super portable.
oh and since you mentioned growing up, if you plan on having any kind of "real" job rocking a pc would make your life much easier. and as for editing, adobe is the bomb. Macs are good for people who wanna edit their home videos and organize some family photos and whatnot, but for legit editing either can work.
