How does it matter? Its not doing anything and if someone who actually knows anything about cameras sees it they're gonna think you're a complete fucktard.
think of all the attributes that go into good video quality:
sharpness
color
filmer
the HDV format only covers the first one, sharpness, and not even that much. It is not real HD, it only interlaces the picture differently so that there is less fuzz and it looks sharper and has higher resolution. The HDV cams can only shoot 60i anyways.
HDV does not cover motion, such as 24p or 60p or any framerate desired. It does not cover color. for example, the Panasonic DVX100b can get waaay better colors than the Sony FX1, which shoots HDV. And of course a good camera means nothing without a good filmer.
an HD cam doesnt even mean its a good cam. It is debatable, (for reasons unknown) but colors are more important than sharpness. You can buy the sharpest HD or HDV camera on the market, but it doesnt mean shit unless you factor in every control aspect.
Sharpness is only one factor, and HD/HDV is only 1 feature. It wont make your footage incredible by itself.
I suggest a DSLR unless you feel like envesting every single penny of yours into filmmaking. Photography is obscenely expensive, I know, but its nothing like cinematography's prices, wowzers.
I disagree. Apple is better at editing HD content. I know he wont be shooting HD but by this I mean that Apple is already one step ahead of Adobe. by getting an Apple and using FCP you are futurproofing yoself.
well not for a while but Im saying that Apple is one step ahead of Adobe. By the time HD cams are affordable, Adobe may have their shit together, but Apple will still be one step ahead because they have thier shit dialed.
Im not saying PC setups are bad, Im just saying that Apple is better because it can be used with the simplest projects, to the most advanced. Pc setups arent as versitle. Look at an Avid setup. you need like 70 lbs. of hardware to get a really good system, and even then, it will still be about the same as Apple's FCP. Fcp is software based, thus making it more affordable and easier to do things, yet it has the same potential.
yeah HD is ok, but i really dont like the look compared to a 3ccd or whatever. depth gets all screwed up cause almost everything seems to be in the same focus, to me it looks more like a video game or something.
