How to get universal remotes to work?

me and my friends like to go in peoples backyards and knock on their windows and run, its super fun but we thought that we should get a universal remote and turn their channels so we tried it on tvs in my house but it doesnt work except the one its programmed too so how do you get it to work on other tvs?

i think u need to program them for your tv's

find their tv model then go online and find the code it should be 4 numbers then you have to program the remote. google is your friend, use it.
