those have been around for a long time, they use them in Hollywood all the time. Its just that they are now being used in snowboard movies. Its basicly a camera on a string that glides across it, and its remote controlled. Watch Mission Impossible 3, the chase scenes they do, they use the exact same mechanism for the ariel shots.

yeah but you can only pivot around one point, not follow cam it. I dont really thing they're more usefull, seeing as how I personally dont like the way they look.
