Skis for my dad...

okay im going to be honest. Hes not a great skier. He doesnt snowplow and he can make it down blacks, but still not a strong skiier by any means. Right now he has strait skis which are probably about 190cm, and i think he really struggles with their size. He is 5'11" 180lbs (i think but i dunno). Hes neveer been on shaped skis at all so what would be a good ski for him? and im not talking PEs or anything, i mean like an all mountain or carve ski. Also not too expensive

hahahahahaah shaped... get with the times.
best ski on the planet to get better on for older people, salomon 1080 from two years ago.
find them, buy them, hell be 90 rolling in no time.

i know someone who's selling a pair in prestine condition with 912 tis for a relativelly cheap price (considering it's with bindings and the edges and bases are in great shape and really not even having topsheet knics and scratche)

i think around 700 US, i don't feel like doing the conversion right now. find last years though, not a whole lot different, at least that he'll be able to tell.

anything made in the last 5 years that is shaped. between sizes 175 to 195 or so will be an huge improvement! there really is no BAD ski these days.

The people suggesting some old 1080s are spot on - those are easy turning, battelships that fit a HUGE spectrum of abilities -

Another option would be a pair of k2 silencers - cheap, awsome shape and flex - great for that low expert type II skier


Outside of those two skis, any middle line skis made since 2001 and between 175 and 185cm would work fine for your old man -

My pops (now a grandad) rocks 189 maidens - but then again he aint your normal 60year old skier

If your dead can ski better than the average joe on loooooong straight skis, then he WILL do well on any shaped skis, it's just so much harder to carve on straight skis. I know the rossy bandits are pretty good all round skis, also look into the k2 apache series.
