Was it global warming in 1856 when there was less than 20-inches of recorded snowfall in the sierra's?

global warming exists and is a huge threat to the earth, especially skiing and snowboarding, but this isnt global warming that were experiencing, this is shitty weather. global warming is like a degree over 20 years, and will hopefully slow down soon if activists such as al gore continue working hard to educate the masses.

by the time global warming takes full effect and there is no snow, there will be a snow substitute being mass produced

Its funny because, even tho we have a small amount where I live, for 3 years ending 2 years ago we didnt have any snow till after xmas, resulting in the closing of one of the ski hills in our area and the closing of the provincial skidoo trails in my area.

Nah..... Here in the midwest the hills are 100% snowmaking, so it doesn't need to snow once all season... just cold temps, and it's sick. I'm just home for the Holidays though... i sure would like to see some snow in SLC though.

yea............ see the thing is although there has only been a small temperature change world wide over the oceans a little bit warmer equals alot more evaporation. weather is a very delicate system. It is that slight temperature increase that has brought in weather patterns such as el nino and la nina. these weather patterns will benefit some areas skiing wise some years and be completely brutal to other areas. whistler had a shit year two winters ago and they have butt loads of snow this year. 2 years ago I remember skiing 6 or so powder days at okemo. thats pretty rare for the east. global warming increases the influence these weather systems have, next year we could have a record snowfall on the east. it just means that every year the weather has a better chance of not being what it traditionally has been. so theres a better chance well either get alot of snow or very little. If the jet stream is moving in our favor global warming would be good, it means that there would be more moisture in the air and if the jet stream keeps cold temps around that equals much more snowfall then average. In alaska I worked on glaciers doing research with my dad for the national science foundation. some glaciers have retreated huge amounts because they just arent gettin cold enough temps others in northern alaska where its always cold are advancing becuase the increase in moisture means more snowfall. places like whistler wont do well in the future. they are right on the verge of being below freezing most of the time becuase they are close to the ocean. a few degrees warmer will change alot of those just barely snow storms to rain. the only place thats safe for awhile is the rocky mountain areas alta utah colorado etc when storms move over the mountains snow will come simply because of the altitude. east coast is generally fucked too

global warming presents the entire world with much more serious issues than a lack of snow for recreational use.

I skied Killington today and it was pretty pathetic. Global warming I don't know, but I certainly talk like the weather right now
All times are Eastern (-5)
