This is the direction that Park Logic said they were going to take Big Boulder. The GM is super commited to do exactly that. Lets discuss how we can help them achieve 100% park.
it would be awesome to have a 100% park but i bet they gradually work up to it. You cant just throw up a park like that. Also it would be hard to make alot of money because you would have a shit load of season pass holders, almost no lift ticket buyers, noone taking lessons, no newbs to waste money, no asian families with too musch money, you get the point. i dont know that t is economically feesable at this point but it would be sick if they could do it right. I just hope they dont rush it and make the mountain go bankrupt. that would suck.
But see, they have Jack Frost for all of that. If you look at the two mountains as just one big mountain, broken up into two different places... it seems financially feasible. Think about the crowds it would draw??? There would be nothing of this caliber anywhere in the region...maybe not even on the East Coast?! There is enough interest in freeriding that I think they could pull it off with some major success.
If the GM was in support of the idea, I would say that they have determined it to be financially feasible. They wouldn't start to move in a direction if they felt that it would cause them to lose money. And, while your ideas do seem to make a good deal of sense, you have to keep in mind that these people are in the industry and actually know whats going on.
Right now, it is a soft 100% park opening. Everywhere at the resort are signs that say BIG BOULDER PARK.. Then there is another warning sign that says to expect park features on every trail. 5 different parks are planned and only 2 are open so far.
I think that the intent is to offer ski school training that will take kids down trails with simple little features off the edge like tree bonks and other small jibs on the green slopes. At least that is the way it was described to me. I am sure there will be a run or two just for cruising with nothing in the middle, but those will likely be the last ones to open. There focus is on a 15 foot base for Big Boulder, thats right, 15 feet!
Expect that more of beginner park with ride on lips will at some point be installed. the best news is the size of the stuff that they plan for the Big Boulder trail which is thier namesake. and at the bottom there is a lodge for viewing etc etc.. Some of you probably remember it from the May Rail Jam. If you have not been there take a little harder look and think about how certain areas could be utlized and let your thoughts be known!
How about that Deck 1/3rd down the hill on Big Boulder trail, cool place to hang? etc etc.
I was actually just up there yesterday December 21, and was amazed at how they just brought a cat out in the middle of the evening to fix the runway/lip to the second jump on their main park. It was amazing how i thought they did that. If roundtop even opened with that runway or lip i would have been happy! they have the ability and they should utilize it. The park scene is where most of the money is coming from besides food and who knows maybe in the future it will be able to hold major events. It will be good
