oh, and to whoever says that they personally can make no difference needs to wake the fuck up. if everybody (or even a small portion of everybody) who thought that they can't make a difference, started to think that they could, there would be change. whether or not it would be immediately noticeable is another story. basically, start doing whatever you can to help in order to preserve our precious snow as long as possible.

Actually invest in iceland, in the next 50 years, iceland will have one of the biggest Gross Domestic Products of the world. Why might you ask. Well Ice is completely formed by volcanic acticvity and with volcanic activity is geothermic power. Geo thermic power produces a lot of hydrogen and thats what comes into play. As of right now, there are a couple of car companies, (mainly german) that have/are producing and/or developing both hydrogen fuel cell cars, and hydrogen intercombustion powered cars. We know the future. Some ask what can the government do. They answer is to increase government spending in the investment of developing these cars, and to stop denying and changing scientific evidence of global climate change. Iceland actually has proven hydrogen to work and has the only (i believe) hydrogen gas station in the world. The mercedes fuel cell van has actually filled up there and drove around the island. Stopping emissions of Co2 is imparetive to stop this trend of global climate change. As said above, it does need to be a local effort aswell as a national and international effort. Without the cooperation of countries like the US, we can never solve this problem. Catch a ride with someone, or ride a bike instead, whatever. A couple surfers actually started a company that converts diesel powered cars into vegetable oil powered cars that emit almost no Co2 into the environment and run like a diesel engine. Efforts like these will turn the tide on this battle of conservative new-born christians (no offense) and Environmentalists. Skiiers can help out in this effort just as surfers have. Save the mountains, save the snow, theres really not much left. well theres my 2 cents. bail

nice try, but a reader edited online "encyclopedia" is hardly a credible reference. Anyone who wants to can post whatever they want there. If you were to use wikipedia as a source for research on a paper or at work you would be laughed out of the building. The fact is, China does not report their CO2 emissions like the rest of the world does. If they did what you would see would match exactly what the World Health Organization found when doing air quality studies there: they have the dirtiest air and the most CO2 production than any other country. This is due to their massive population, rapid development and no regard to environmental policy. Put the kool aid down kid.

How about you lay down some scientific evidence for your claim? some true, some false...USA is the greatest polluter, no doubt. but they do it for the economy. btw. do you guys seriously think that we can go in space, but cannot have a good alternative energy consuming vehicle? its just bullshit again. oil companies just buy the inventions trademarks for a lot of $$$ so they keep on making huge $$$ and nobody can build those cars. most politician are the same. $$ before the world. think about it you could save many lives by donating your$ to poor people in africa and such. but who would honestly do this? its the same with the government and pollution

From 900bc to 1300ad the world was much warmer - crops flourished around the world - humanity started to achieve great things

From 1400ad to 1800 - the climate got very cold - crops failed, people died, famines, plauges, religous extremism, mass migrations, etc...

Now we are in a warming trend again - we are thriving, but because humanity is so short sighted we forget the past 1000 years and freak out when we have a warm winter -

get the fuck over it - and just enjoy your life

until the U.S. becomes involved, KYOTO doesn't matter...the U.S. has, by far, the highest CO2 emissions comparitively. Even if one is to dismiss the recent surges in C02 and, consequently, temperature being caused by fossil fuel burning, etc., and say that this is a natural cycle, CO2 cannot be ruled out for augmenting the "natural" figures. Also, if this is truly cyclical, with the levels as high as they are now, the decrease in temperature would be greater than any previous recorded one and we would be in the midst of the worst ice age ever....hard to ski when you, let alone mountains, are buried. nordic skiing sucks, too.

People like yourself fail to understand the larger picture and soley focus on simpleton data and misleading stats.

1. Ok CO2 has increased since 1850 - AND????? what is a significant increase, what do those numbers mean? What about historical data - the Earth is Billions of years old - basing your hypothesis on .00000001% of our geohistory is ignorant and misleading. Infering causation is sad! I could say that there has been an exponential increase in the number of tofu pups sold at Safeway and creatw the same graph and place it next to yours, are they related? No! But I can make a fancy graph that looks all official.

2. Wow...the line goes up??? and? How does that affect us? Really, there is more CO2? What else has happened other than the industrial revolution since 1850? Oh wait, it must be those darn humans again, ruining everything...

Alarmist propaganda is simple nonsense - Now call me ignorant, but I would bet a season pass to the mountain of your choice that I have a much higher level of education and a deaper scientific background than most on this site.

I personally believe that human action is causing damage to our planet - But simpleton crys of the sky is falling make ZERO sense....and historical data refutes many of the arguements/talking piints presented on this forum.

I believe waynewong has much of the same opinion as i do:

We do not ave sufficient data to say that we are the sole generator of "enhanced greenhouse effect".

The fact that people are saying "OMG GLOBAL WARMINGGG 11!11!!!" because they are getting less snow than last year is ridiculous. Weather doe snot alternate over such preiod of time in any convincing way.

I believe that human emissions of greenhouse gases is having an effect. How drastic it is compared to what we are seeing is something that i do not yet fully buy from the people crying al gore.

I believe it was petek who said it: we are coming out of an ice age, glaciers melting is actually normal... we just might be speeding up the return to normality.

First of all... really impressed with your degree! How dare I question someone who studies electrical circuits on the topic of climatology?!? Maybe later we can compare my MBA, JD and years of real life WORK experience and see who has a better view of how the world works, not just the inside of a commodore 64.

Listen KID, I'm glad that over in Europe you have the government to hold your hand and spoon feed you while you pursue your education. Over here in America we do it a little differently; we dont put people out of work to sign a piece of paper that is completely unenforceable, and irrational. You see, Americans work. That's why we're at the top of the economic food chain. The never ending quest to find the best goods and services at the cheapest price will always trump the importance of signing a cerimonial pollution document.

Dont get me wrong, we aren't anti-environment, we just refuse to hamstring ourselves, our income, our economy, and our lives to please the rest of the world. We continue to make strides towards a cleaner planet and our, as you put it "rich ass high-tech nation", will do it on our own through innovation and necessity. As I told you before our constant need to supply consumers with the best product will drive us to a cleaner country and planet. If the public wants hybrid cars (by the way hybrids were the fastest growing segment of the auto market this year) companies will scramble to produce them. It's the same with anything else. That's why capitalism is the only economic system that has stood the test of time, we have incentive and a vested interest to supply products, regulations, and laws that the public and consumers want. If Dodge doesn't make a hybrid, their sales will hurt. If a congressman doesn't vote for reduced coal emmissions then his chances of re-election will be hurt. If people want a cleaner planet, it will happen, but it wont happen if it's forced upon them.

I believe we have some of the most beautiful land, water and sky on the planet, and alot more of it than most every country on earth so of course we have a lot more to lose. We know this and are taking steps to ensure we dont damage or lose any of it. Just because Americans dont drink the sky-is-falling-inconvenient-truth-day-after-tomorrow kool-aid doesn't mean we don't care about the environment, we're just more realistic about it.

Oh yeah, as tempting as it is to accept your challenge of writing a paper, I think I'll pass, dork. Seriously, if that is how you debate, I'd love to see how you try and get laid. Get back to your dungeons and dragons game and let the big kids deal with the big problems...

i dont really think there is much truth to global warming. i live in ohio near cincinnati and the small ski area that i go to has to make about 95% of its snow. last year thety had their earliest opening ever and this year they opened even earlier than that. two years ago we had the biggest snowstorm in cincinnati's history.

I believe in Global Warming and being real and all.............. but that's bullshit. Cows, at least some breeds, can't "relieve" their gas. A ranch hand at my grandfathers ranch used to have to go around sticking this pole thing inside their stomach's to let built up gas out. That whole cow's and methane myth is bullshit. Global Warming however, is not. The cow thing is just used (in my opinion) to take some of the guiltiness off of us humans. By saying it's not entirely our fault, we do not feel ashamed to continue taking advantage of the earth we live on.

you're right, it varies country by country. If you look at France compared to a Czech Republic for example, both are free market economies, however in France energy, transportation, even some auto producers are controlled by the state.

But look at France, they wanted to make their markets more competitive to get them out of their long running slump with the CPE law, but that crashed and burned... Many countries WANT something closer to the american market in terms of competitiveness and strength, and it clashes with socialist views.

But anyways, back to "Enhanced Greenhouse Effect".
