I am looking around for a down jacket. I want it to be new, at least 20K waterproofing, a good hood, and a price below $300. I am thinking of the Mix Down, but am unsure on the sizing. If anyone could help me out with that, I would appreciate it, and if you know of another puffy that meets those requirements, point it out. Thanks.
I find it odd that the jackets designed for the worst cold also have lousy waterproofing on them, considering that keeping down dry is a high priority because it looses its insulative qualities when wet.
the only reason jackets like that bonfire and probably the grenade are so waterproof is cuz if the down gets wet it clumps together and no longer insulates you. a puffy that uses synthetic insulation like primaloft doesn't really need 20k, either way you're still gonna stay dry.
For one thing, I prefer to have more waterproofing over less. For another, I want to have the sizing correct when I buy it. I don't think either of those things are unreasonable.
