i'm a 6 foot, gently built, masculine boy from pennsylvania lookin to shred some park with some new skis.. what kinda skis can handle my bigger-than-your-average-skier build? anyone lookin to sell anything?
there's like 30 different skis that could potentially suit you. To narrow it down you have to give more info, like where you ski/ability level/whether you want pure park or some all mtn performance/preferred ski flex etc.
Anyway, to address your question CrazyTom: you are not a bigger than avergae skier, so any ski will work for you. Sounds like you are looking for a park ski specifically. The Line Invader and Fischer Addict are good choices and are symmetrical for all park riding. You may like the longer length of the Addict though, although they may be hard to come by and the Invader is $100 less. Non-symmetrical but also park specific is the k2 Fujative. That comes very highly reccomended from NS and the price is really low. If you are really concerned about your size, you might avoid this one because it is very soft. If you are looking for all mountain performance as well, I suggest the Line Chronic (cheap and good, pretty stiff), k2 Public Enemy, the Volkl Karma (very stiff, but pricey).
oh, here's how I pick skis by the way, if this helps you: think of exactly what you want it for (park, powder, groomers, a little of everything). Then think of the size you are looking for (waist width, and width of BOTH tips). Think of the core you want (wood, foam, hybrid). Think of the flex pattern you want (soft, stiff, directional, symmetrical). Write your results on a piece of paper, then go to the website of every ski company you can think of and find the ski that matches your dream ski closest.
For example:
I said
all mountain
medium-wide (about 90 waist)
bigger tip than tail (tip around 120, tail around 115)
all wood core, carbon fiber would be nice
stiff flex, directional
I ended up going with the Chronic Blend.
If I had said, for instance, I wanted tips close to the same size, I would have gotten Scratch BCs and if I had said I wanted symmetrical flex I would have gotten Line Elizabeths.
Asking what kind of skis you should get on NS is like asking a 2nd grader which ass they like better.
You're not going to get a good answer.
I don't say this because NS members are worthless, I say this because buying skis all comes down to personal preference. Do you like a soft ski? Or a stiff ski? Do you want a pure park ski, or a all-around twin?
Way too many variables to just straight up ask, what ski should I get based on your body build.
Hell, I am 6' with a fairly broad upper body build, but I love soft skis, but based on my weight, everyone says I should be on stiff skis.
