OK, so this being my senior summer and i have no job as of right now, i gave myself a little summer reading list. at the top of the list, i wanted to read the LOR trilogy, mainly becaue i had gotten a one volume edition in the fall but i hadnt really picked it up since i started reading assignments and such for school.... DOES ANYBODY ELSE REMEMBER THIS BOOK BEING SOOOO FRIGGIN SLOW TO START!?!?!?!?!?!??!!? dear lord, its just endless dialogue and... guh, the only thing thats keeping me from stopping is remembering how quick it goes later.

dude, best books ever, and its not really slow so much as really interesting when you actually learn every thing in the beginning, but i guess thats just my opinion

Try reading the Silmarillion, which is the history of Middle Earth in general and the Elves in particular (-:

It's an amazing triliogy but the first book is the slowest thing in the world!!!! If you don't like the first one of the triliogy don't even bother reading the Hobbit.lol

I tried reading it but it sucked. I am into all the Weis And Hickman stuff like Dragon Lance and Death Gate, those stories are acdtually complex and interesting. the Lord Of the Rings seems simple and boring.

you know what i have to say to that, your kinda dumb, what the hell if it wasnt for tolkien then gay shit like dragon lance would never be around. where do you think they get orcs and elves and halflings from? tolkien started it all. the first and best, epic as hell

Just a question, when does Two Towers come out on box set DVD? I mean, i got the 4 disc Fellowship DVD set, but I never saw Towers.....

Yeah I hated the LOTR trilogy. SOOOOO boring!!! Tolkien had an amazing imagination, but he was a boring writer.
The only reason he's famous is because he was the first to do something like this. It IS a great story, don't get me wrong, but why do you think of the dozens of other books he wrote, none of them ever were famous? Because he's not a very good writer, that's why.

The Sword of Truth is a great series written by Terry Goodkind if you like REALLY well written stories.
Also, the Iron Tower Trilogy my Dennis L. Mckiernan is good.
