true, most pipes are near the bottom of the mountain, unless your mountains tiny like mine. head done a little early and get some hits in the pipe. speed is everything. if u need to take less hits do so ot get speed. spining isnt as hard.

If the pipe is undervert (not straight up enough) then you're going to need to pop. On the left wall pop with your left foot and on the right wall pop with your right foot. Just get used to straight airing the pipe and do 3's and 5's on the last hit until you get used to it.

i find carving in to the wall hard...and waiting on your edge till you get to the top of the tranistion is key...when youre at the top of the tranistion a slight, very slight pop will get you out and over the vert...too much pop will send you into the middle...also i think speed is your friend for big boosts...love pipe

just fool around with different drop ins and shit

the one problem i always had was popping to early and landing in the middle. for the first few times try a light pop but focus on riding your tail all the way out of the pipe. so basically make sure your tails keep contact with the wall for as long as they can.
p.s. no hate? no dumb jokes? newschoolers?

i think they key to getting speed and keeping it is you extend at the tranny and you ride your edge up the next wall. then just transfer your weight down the hill once you get airborne

prob cuz there seems to be less halfpipe talent=less jerkheadz who think there better than everyone

just take a little more speed into the pipe every run, slowly work your way up.

right as you get to the bottom or so of the tranny pump and straighten your legs to carry speed. go on expn.com and just watch a xgames pipe run, watch what the pros do inbetween hits/as there landing. thats what he meanz

A) dont be surprised around here if you dont get help.
B) land with your legs extended if you can. Near the bottom of the tranny you want to crouch and then extend so you are sort of going with the flow. youll know when your doing it right. Do the exact same thing up the other wall, but reversed.

he means extend your body like stand up more dont be in a crouched position throught the transition. you sort of pump, it is like skateboarding a vert ramp if you have any experence in that.

the tranny is the part that is curved, somewhere is there you pump(push your legs up) adn straighten out.
i cant ski pipe, but im pretty sure thats what they mean.

the most important part I think is to carve at the bottom, until you are totally flat on your skis. because on the wall and pop if your on your edge you lose: power, speed and balance.

pipe is easier then slope/rails... like by a ton, just have plenty of speed and keep forward... 3s are like 1s basically and 5s are like 3s and so forth... unless its alleyoop i guess

what they're talking about w/ the transition (curved part) is pumping. as you get into the tranny, push down with your feet (that's pumping) through the entire way up, then when you get to the lip (top), give a nice little pop (jump). you don't want to pop out/towards the middle of the pipe so much as you want to pop down the pipe. it sounds fucked up, but once you get it you'll know what i'm saying.
then land with yours knees bent, preferably right below the lip, slightly on edge, and push through with your feet (pump) until you reach the flat and stand up. repeat at the next wall.
ultimately it all comes down to doing it and getting the feel for it. once you've tried it you'll be able to ask some more specific questions and hopefully get better feedback. good luck.

false.
if pipe is easier than why can every kid 270 on and not boost over 5 ft. out of the pipe? takes waaayyyyy more skill to be good at pipe then jumps/rails do. it doesnt help that most mountains have shitty pipes either.

Riiiight, and that must be why the US Open slopestyle filled up in minutes but there are still pipe spots available.

first and foremost, its important to have skis with edges. it makes all the difference. You can ski pipe with skis that have seen their fair share of rails, but to take it to the next level, they need to be sharp. thats just one of many things

What I personally think is the most important thing when still in the beginning stages of learning pipe (and this is something that even some semi-pros to pros need work on) is to make sure you can ride both sides of the wall. Learn how to air out of both walls, and not by alleyooping your unnatural one, just normal airing.

i suck at pipe this was a pretty dope thread. all i really know is that pumpin the tranny is clutch but i suck at it so i usually just do a couple hits so that i have enough speed.

i dont think you can learn how to pump the tranny over the internet . you just have to go do it and try stuff.

i dont ride pipe much but my mountains terrain park is wayyyy to flat and the pipe is at the bottom and has basically no slope at all with 12 foot walls with makes it not a half pipe but just like a rectangle with no top...
if that made any sense to anyone

wait wait wait last year bristol had a nice pipe but ill agree the top part of the park is way to flat but the last two jumps had a nice hill down. but they had a good pipe from what i can remember but ......

well i suck at pipe but i just think theres not enough slope to get alotta hits outta it ...a good half pipe skier can probably get 3 really good hits in before theres no more speed and that requires dropping in very late with lots of speed.. thats just what i think

what u need is people who dont hit the pipe to call next drop them bomb from the jump before and you get some good hits i didnt try that but i saw other ppl doin it with some nice runs

yeah probably hard to do that when theres a bunch of little snowboarders hanging out and just fooling around but that would work when theres not many ppl or at least ppl who know what theyre doing

Bristol's pipe absolutely blows. waaaaay too flat, 2 maybe 3 decent hits at most, depends on conditions, and usually its not hittable anyways because they never groom it so it is always oververt and ice. also it shouldnt be a "superpipe" cus the walls arent deep enough, and while it is possible to have a half way decent pipe with 12 footwalls, you also need the transistion to be built properly, and they have no idea how to do that either.
