what do most of you ride on? i ride like 6-7 at a little less than 120 lbs and about 5'5. any suggestions for changes?
i ride a 153 cuz im tiny, not cuz im gay. next year im getting a 165 or 169

depends on the size of the stuff ur doing, and whether or not u want ur skis fallin off, im 5'2' 115 and i ride them at 8-8.5

i keep my twin tips at 9. but my speed skis on the otherhand are set on 12. i dont want those fuckers commin off while im goin down a sg course at 65mph

well, i and most people i know ride them maxed out. But my resort has no park and everythings really bumpy sooo.. if your skiing just park you can probably have them lower.

Well personally I ride mine maxed out. But I may have to reconsider. Last year my mom tore her ACL and this year she spiral fractured her leg.

it depends on what you do, if your hucking huge cliffs you'll want it higher than if you are out jibbin. i ride on 10 for my park ski and 13 on my pocket rockets

wow........someone said they weight 115 and set them at fuckin 9? that's stupid...no way you would need that setting unless you have a boot sole length of about 115. Mosely said; 'About once a year I unclip my boots and put my DIN as low as they go and make a few runs. If I make it all the way down, skiing normal, without my ski falling off, then I know my form is perfect.'

Look at the fuckin chart..I don't care HOW BIG YOU GO, if you follow that chart with a max of ONE ABOVE what the chart reads your binding WONT FALL OFFF. No fuckin way....unless you're racing at 60mph and doing 40ft cliffs. Even if you go huge all the time you don't fuckin need a really high setting. And if you're skis fall off, that's probably because they're supposed and YOU fucked up, not cause the binding. If it repeatedly falls off go get them tested by a shop pro.

You guys that think having a high din setting is cool are way off, you're the ones that will be having spiral fractures and torn ACL's. Have fun watching the Prophecy from your living room chair with an icepack on your knee while I'm out rippin freshies with my buddies that actually have a brain.

Morbumps is right. Unless you're in deep pow or hitiing hugew cliffs you want those skis to come off. I weigh 175 and only had mine set at a 9 and i still tore my ACL when i was just carving. Don't be all macho and think the higher the din the more hardcore you are. Keep the dins just a bit high for park and normal skiing. Trust me it's not worth losing a season of your life.

It may be what kind of binding you are using to. I pop out of my salomons. I brake my markers and atomics. I think I am going to try to invest in some look bindings.

i am 181cm and 69kg and my din settings vary from 6 to 9 and i got the tyrolia freeflex plus 7 bindings. doesn't release when they shouldn't.

If a binding is mounted correctly (which a lot of broken bindings i see aren't even fuckin close) then it shouldn't break. If it does then warrenty that shit and try another pair. Most of the time when people continuously break equipment it's a skier thing not an equipment think. If you get the right stuff for your skiing and set it up correctly, especially mounting, then you shouldn't have a problem.

Just for the record I teach with my binding at a DIN of 3 maybe 4 and I'm 185lbs. I do it so I can pop out easy and help people out. The only time that the ski pops out is when I'm in Moguls or stopping at high speeds. Good luck guys...like someone said it's your knees and it's not worth it.

Set your DIN properly. I keep my Skyhoy (telemark bindings) on the proper release setting for my height, weight, and skiing style and have only pre-released once (and that was in 6ft of fresh pow). Keeping your DIN too high will eventually result in fuckign up your ACL if you are lucky and your ACL and growth plate if you're unlucky.

I am saying that i would rather run the risk of maybe fucking my knee up, than running a lower din and having my ski pop off an a very unforunate time - such as when your skiing over crazy ass exposure like 300 foot cliffs. I would rather be at home with a fucked up knee than in a body bag.

If you ski properly your skis are not goingto come off unless they are supposed to. GO LEARN TO SKI. if i can ride the shit here in michigan with low dins and not come out none of you should have a problem. i used to set my dins high but then when i ripped my binding out of my ski instead of releasing i realized i was seriously going to screw my legs over. my point being get your stuff mounted right, and learn to ski. and if you are going to adjust your dins yourself NEVER go past the last number it screws up the tension in the springs and screws over your binding permanently.

Mammoth- i'm not being a prick. Let's just think about this for a second. If your ski is going to pop off you're probably going to fall, right?? I don't care how fast you ski, if you are just skiing along..and have everything set the way it's supposed to, your ski will not pop off if set close to the correct din. If it's gonna fall off you're falling anyway....and are gonna die. See what I mean? I once had my DIN set about .5 too high, I made my first jump turn into a nice fresh chute and BAM....hit something that I couldn't see (just like you said...the bumps you can't see). My knees went into my fuckin throat and i compressed my spinal cord. The ski popped off but boy if only it woulda been 1 second earlier.

Hope you see both sides of logic. I used to be like that until I thought about it. If your in a position that your ski might fall off, you're falling anyway.

Alright - im 6'2, 185, and have 29.5 boots so im a pretty big guy. My body can handle speed and bumps that my skis/bindings certainly cannot - I have been skiing the steeps of mammoth for like 14 years now so dont tell me that when im straightlining the top and my ski pops off from bumps and vibrations that i was already falling anyways (besides - if your skiing steep shit your really just in a controlled state of falling) Most of the times I have taken a bad fall have been from a binding pre-releasing. Depends what kind of bindings you have too - i was skiing my old v pros with marker comp 1400 bindings set to 12-13 and I got catapulted 70 feet downhill after hitting a slush mogul going about 30mph - That is not safe in my eyes. I have scratch 140s on my pistols and they work great - only came out once on a twisting knee killing fall in the pipe, and it came out fine with no pressure on my knee.

Mammoth according to the chart you should be a 8.5

10 din isnt that bad you would have no prob at a 9 though.

The reason those skis fell off is cus markers are piece of shit bindings for staying on.
They release easy thats why it is a good bind for beginner intermediate skiers.

If you ride markers crank them up especially in the heeel cus thats where they will prerelease.

Marker has a toe piece that is called a biometric toe and once it reaches a certain point of ellasticity out in either dirrection i believe it is 8mm then it looses all retention and you can just step out of it while a rossi or look toe piece will move around 14-16 mm and never loose retention you have to come out of them completely on your own.

This is how far off center the binding can come and still return to middle. Those speed girrations you are talking about cause the bind to move off center and thats what the mm is.
Thats why people crank markers cus if you go past that point they loose all there tension while all others maintain it and will return to center with more play on both sides.

Marker feels this is an advantage in preventing injurries cus if your that fall from center there test show you cant recove r past that 8mm.

You can do whatever you wanna do dude, whatever you're comfortable with. All I'm saying is I've been skiing for 19 years, and every bit of 15 of those 19 have been aggressive, not to mention 8 years PSIA certified. I've seen a freakin ton of bad ACL and spiral fractures from idots that think they're ski gods. It's not worth it...that's all.

Yo ,Mr bumps ,everyone's got there own opinion.....mine is if you ski hard and your din {I should say my din} is not cranked, I risk injury from my ski blowing off thus causing serious wipe-out.It's happend to me a number of times.My skis are mounted w/ 914's and 916's, set at 14 and 15.{yes I know its fucked up, because for optimum binding performance , it should be set near the middle of the springs range.But what am I to do?}I 'm pretty big and ripping thru super chunky,wet,blocky, or refrozen crud and dropping stuff puts serious torque + strain on bindings so If I didn't set them the way I do I'd be losing skis every run and every time a ski blows off at high speed in sketchy terrain there's a good chance of injury.Doesn't matter what the situation is,even going head over heels tumbleing down a steep face, if my skis stay on my feet, I'm much better off.............But whatever ,everyone do whats good n'safe for themselves

i cant speak from experience as far as pow skiing goes, cause we get none here in eastern PA, but for park, you dont need to crank the din up. If your ski falls off on a landing, chances are its gonna fall off no matter how high you got em cranked, or its gonna tweak your leg super bad. i am 5'11 150lbs and i have mine set at 8, which is absolutely plenty for me. Once i got the toe hieght and wings dialed in, i never prereleased once all season long. just my peice...

Well, I'm about 180lbs and mine are set on 9. I've pulled them off in mid-air and tweaked my knee at that setting. A pro in France told me that it's far safer to pull a ski off mid-air than to not have it release on a crash, because the worst you can do if you pull on off is a hard crash, maybe broken bones, instead of torn ligaments.

I say, if you don't know what you're doing, leave them at what the shop tech put them at, and if they pre-release turn them up a half. If you want to set them way higher, know the risks of that and be prepared to face the consequences if they don't release when they should.

everyone should take this into consideration... what flexmacman said is a good statement. no matter what ur dins is set at, it should be at the MIDDLE of the range of din settings. If you are riding on S912s which have a din setting of 5-12, you should be riding at a din setting of about 7-10. if you go lower or high than that, u risk fucking around with your binding. the spring in your bindings are really not meant to be set at those high or low levels of din, hench the little red area from 11-12 dins on the S912s. personally, din setting are a personal preference i think. Im a huge guy ( 5-10, about 220 lbs) and i was at an 11 for my v pros with p14s. im putting scratch 140s on my pistols and im prolly gonna set em again at 11. if you wanna crank up your dins, invest in some good bindings and do it properly. get some ZRRs or some p14s.
