United States suspensions for underage drinking!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!??!?!?

I think that is the dumbest shit I have ever heard. How all these schools in the states fucking suspend kids for drinking... ON THE WEEKEND!? LIIKE HOW THE HELL DO can they suspend you for that!? It's so damn dumb. What is the huge deal about alcohol? Like I was amazed the first time I heard of this.
EVERYONE drinks alcohol. Everyone. It's legal for anyone to in like 80% of the world. What the hell does YOUR time on YOUR weekend have to do with school?
I know that would never ever ever happen where I am in canada. It's crazy how different it is an hour away from me (where the boarder is).
But I like get angry when I hear this. It's such a stupid thing to do. To suspend kids for underage drinking. They're gunna anyways when they're 18 or 19 or 21.
Amazing.

Well if the kids signed something, abiding by the school rules, then they have to uphold those. But if they didn't.. then that'd be messed up.. but I imagine they did sign it. So if they don't like it, they can go to a different school.. big deal.

athletes and asb kids are on "code" where they cant drink or smoke even if they are of legal age. so they can get fucked. other kids are legit unless they get caught at a shcool event

Athletic code at our school says that if we drink or smoke or do any kind of drug at any time of the year we are suspended from sports.
Shits super weak.
But, even if someone says you were at a party, you can just deny it unless they have proof. Happened to me many times.

That's crazy. So, you guys have to like sign things?
Personally, I don't see the big deal with 16 and 17 year olds drinking, your going to be super soon anyways. And you might as well have some fun as you're young.
Like look at Europe. Everyone drinks. That's were the majority of people who founded north america came from. It's weird how things turned out to be so different over here then from there.

The school is not a criminal court. If you did not sign a sports agreement or whatever, then they have not right to discipline you for things you do outside of school. The legality of it has no bearing on it.

It's also amazing how you dudes in America are super crazy into sports. Like you guys have to get physicals and stuff to be on the teams and sign contracts. It's nothing like that here.
We just try out, you make it, you make it. haha. That simple. You guys are way more disciplined which is super good for sports teams. You guys have lots of pride for your country and school. There is a lack of that in Canada, and like none at all in schools here.

and you make the HUGE and FALSE assumption that asking them to sign that agreement in the first place is fair and justified. you can't just walk away from the only school in your area, or the place all your friends are going. i think schools trying to regulate students outside of school hours is WAY fucking beyind their jurisdiction and if i were a parent with a child in a system like that id raise all hell. funny that the same people who would accept such rediculous restrictions on behaviour are the ones who say they love america for its ideals of freedom.

still, the school shouldn't have anything to do with kids' behaviour on the weekend.
i mean, i could see the police enforcing it a little stronger but a fucking school?

A government is supposed to act in favor of the ppl in the state...it shouldnt CONTROL you...i cant understand why most of u r accepting all those rules and then say how important freedom is..do anything against it, if there are like 50 millions of young ppl signing a petition or anything...

in this case the majority of people, parents at least, are supportive of the policy so the govt is not to blame. remember also that they were once young and rebellious, but grew up to accept these rediculous measures. dont think itl happen to you?

They have the freedom to choose whatever school they want. So if this is a big deal to you, I'd suggest finding a school that let's you get drunk everyday with no problem. If the school is private, they make their own rules, and if you want to go there, you're going to have to abide by them.

they should reduce the drinking age to 18, usa is one of the few countries that is over 18

my point is that students should not be forced away from thir local school, and that the school has no right not make those demands of them. i dont know where you live, but in small communities it may often be unreasonable to 'just go to another school'. the school is a public institution responsible for education, and should have absolutely no say in the behaviour or lifestyle of its students outside of school hours. thats what the justice system is for. im canadian and this is no issue for me i just object to it strongly out of priciple.
haha, can u tell im on NS putting off writing a philosophy paper?

I dont think that getting a physical is stupid. I never liked getting them but now that i think about it, it makes sure you are healthy enough to play and just makes sure you are healthy in general.
But I do agree with you on drinking, even after highschool it sucks. You usually have to do something to get caught but it happens. Some of my friends got caught with a case in the back of their car and they both had to pay like a $200 fine and do community service and if they get caught again they could face some jail time.

I never said a physical was stupid. I never even implied that. Physicals are definitely super good. It's just they don't do them here in Canada for some odd reason...

This is one of the things thats stupid in America. The drinking age is too high so people do it anyway. They would have so many less problems if it was 18. It shouldnt be allowed to be more than 18 as its the voting age and u cant say that a legal adult can vote but not buy one drink.
Illegal what? in a private place u can do whatever the fuck u like. Drinking at home is not illegal. it is illegal to buy it but not consume it. Well it is here and if its different anywhere else its studpid as its too hard to enforce.
If that was my school i would leave straight away. Your school cant do shit if u do stuff unless its at school or in school time.
this shit pisses me off.

Basically schools can take control of legal matters involving students, and put their own punishments on them. I know a kid who got busted rolling a joint with an 1/8th on him and the police allow the school board to decide a school punishment as well as the ones that the police provide. Its absolutely retarded.
